After only an hour or two of sleep, Rose found herself in the middle of the same nightmare she'd been having since Spokane. Over and over, she saw it happen again. Isaiah grabbing Mason's head and twisting faster than she could even scream his name. The light in Mason's eyes going out so suddenly as he fell, lifeless, to the floor. What happened next was burned into her memory, too, but it was Mason's death that her own subconscious forced her to keep reliving almost any time she closed her eyes. Rose pushed herself up so she was sitting on her bed as she tried to calm her raging emotions. Lissa was asleep, thank God. Rose loved her best friend, but the last thing she needed right now was Lissa's emotions intruding on her own. Her own feelings were troubled enough. Mason's death had been felt heavily by the whole school, not just Rose, Eddie and the others who had been in Spokane. It had been them who had been trapped there with Mason. It had been Rose who had watched him die. But Mason had been a popular guy. Everyone loved him and Lissa's sense of compassion meant she would have been sad even if she hadn't liked him personally. Not to mention, Rose knew she was worried about her. She appreciated that, but feeling it through the bond wasn't really helpful right now. With Lissa asleep and safe here in the apartment, Rose decided to take a short walk. Getting out might help her clear her head a little and that was something she desperately needed. Going back to sleep right this second definitely wasn't going to work, especially when she and Lissa were both trying to shift from their normal vampiric schedule to the human one most people seemed to live by around here. After taking a moment to leave a note, just in case Lissa woke up and noticed she was gone, Rose slipped out of the apartment the two of them were sharing here in Knowhere. She didn't really know her way around, yet, but Rose trusted her natural sense of direction to guide her back if she happened to get lost. It was late, nighttime for these people, despite the fact that they were supposedly living on some kind of space station, so Rose just kind of wandered aimlessly. She wasn't looking for something to do or even someone to talk to so much as she was just looking to get out and clear her head before going back and trying to get some more sleep. |
