It wasn’t long before Derek was waiting for Cora downstairs. Sure, the two might have lived together but he was downstairs before she arrived waiting. His hands resting within the pockets of his black jacket as he leaned against the side of the building. He’d been fine being anti-social for the past few years he was here. But with recent faces arriving, he was just more in his skin than usual. And Cora bugging about what was bothering him, wasn’t helping. How do you tell your sister you’ve dated men before? How would she react to it. He was surer she wouldn’t care. But Derek cared. It was still new to him. And with Stiles around, it made things a bit more uneasy for Derek. But it wasn’t the kids fault. Derek was just going to have to get over it. --- Cora seriously wanted to know who it was that had Derek acting the way that he was acting. But he had a wall up and it was going to take a bit of work to break it down and get the information out of him. She had time. Plenty of it. She made her way down the stairs and over to where Derek was standing. “So. Where are we going?” * “Little diner not far from here.” He replied as he motioned for her to follow him. His hands stayed within the pockets of his jacket as he glanced over at her. A roll of his eyes given. “You’re gonna to ask, aren’t you?” He said. Knowing how Cora was. Still, he shook his head slightly and brought his hand through his hair and soon over his beard for the moment. Derek had gotten use to the facial hair and in truth enjoyed having it. “Can we at least sit down before you start hounding me with a million questions?” -- Cora followed since Derek knew where they were going. Cora was still learning where everything was. She looked over at Derek, trying to hold back a smile at his question. He knew her well. She was most definitely going to ask him. “Yes, I am. You didn’t think you were getting off the hook that easily, did you?” As much as she’d like to know the answer right now, she’d give him that. “I’ll wait. But the minute we’re sitting, I’m asking and you’re answering.” There was just no way around it. It was better to tell her than to hold it back. * A heavy sigh escaped his lips. He could always just keep walking and walking and just not say anything. But he was sure one way or another she was going to ask questions. Might as well be while he was somewhat relaxed and eating. “Fine.” he said with a shake of his head. It wasn’t too long before they reached the diner. Maybe ten or fifteen minutes tops. Once inside, he motioned for them to take a seat at one of the empty booths as he moved to sit across her. “Not so fast.” He said already seeing her mouth open to ask questions. Once he was finally situated he leaned back and exhaled deeply. “Go.” Is all he said as he rested his arm at the back of the booth for the moment. This was going to be a long lunch. He felt it. -- Cora knew she’d get her way. And she was satisfied with the fact that Derek would be telling her who was getting under his skin. The walk wasn’t long, which was good because it meant she was that much closer to poking and prodding her brother with questions. The moment they sat down at the booth, she opened her mouth, ready to start with the five hundred questions, but she closed her mouth when he said, ‘not so fast.’ She sighed and waited until she got the okay to go ahead and ask. And when she did, she didn’t hold back. “Okay, spill it. Who is it that has gotten under your skin and why aren’t you doing anything about it? No, hiding out and keeping to yourself isn’t doing something about it.” * It was now or never. “He’s not here anymore.” That was all Derek really said. Waiting to let that one sentence settle in his sisters head for the moment. Since for as long as Derek could remember he chased after women. Still does, but his attention shifted two almost three years ago. And it didn’t help the person was here, or at least a version of them. The annoying version at that. The thought alone had Derek rubbing his temple as the waitress came and he placed an order for two waters before glancing to the menu. -- That was not the answer Cora thought she would be getting. It was pretty much the same answer that she had gotten from him over the network. The only difference was that he said it was a he. It kind of threw her for a moment since she didn’t know that Derek was into guys. Cora waited for the waitress to come and go before saying anything again. “He, huh? Didn’t know you liked guys. Still doesn’t stop me from wanting to know who this he is. You hid. That has to mean something.” Like, maybe this person was back and that was why Derek was acting the way he was acting. * Derek couldn’t help but exhale deeply. “It was when I first got here. It was me and a few others from back home. Scott, Lydia and Stiles. So we kinda stuck together.” He replied with a shrug of his shoulders for the moment. “Typical shit ya know. Me watching the brats.” He said as he glanced to Cora for the moment. “It was Stiles.” He replied as he sipped at his water that was brought to them as he figured out what he was going to eat already. “Then he left. For two years nothing. And then bam, this Stiles shows up. So yeah, I’m hiding. It’s fucking weird.” He replied shaking his head for the moment. “Especially after the party. I know it ain’t the same Stiles, but it’s still Stiles, and I gotta get over it which I was until recent.” -- Cora listened as Derek finally started to talk. It didn’t sound any different than what was going on right now. Although, she couldn’t help but wonder why he always thought he had to look out for Scott and his pack. “Stiles?” she questioned, eyebrow raised, not sure if she heard right. “You and Stiles?” For some reason she just couldn’t imagine them together. At all. They always seemed to dislike one another. “Is that why you offered to host the party because Stiles was involved?” Hey, she had to ask. “Watching him make out with Scott is what made you hide out, isn’t it?” * “I offered because the idiot was going to do it at Noah’s place and trash it. Figured I’d play nice and offer my place, that way I can keep an eye on all of you at once.” He replied with a shrug of his shoulders. When she mentioned the make out portion Derek sighed for the moment. “It was, and it’s juvenile and stupid to have done it. But I did it.” He replied as he came to lean back and glance to the waitress. Already placing his order in as he glanced to Cora and let her put her order next. Once alone he watched his sister. “But like I said, not the Stiles I know so I used the alone time to get over it.” He added as he rubbed his beard. “And no, no one else knows.” -- “They weren’t. They were looking for a place to have it. I only know that because I went along with them to find a place.” They hadn’t found anything, obviously, but she knew that they hadn’t wanted the party in the apartment at that point in time. “We don’t need you to baby-sit.” She glanced down at the menu, quickly choosing something before pushing it away. “Are you really over it?” She somehow doubted it. She ordered and once the waitress was gone again, her attention was right on her brother. “I bet you’re going to act weird every single time you see Stiles. And even weirder if you see Stiles and Scott together.” Well, there went her next question. “I now know.” She leaned back and smiled a bit. “Sooo, next question. Are you only into Stiles or do you actually like guys as well?” * “Are you kidding me? You all need babysitters attached to your hips.” He said with a smirk. Ignoring her statements he shook his head. “No, I.. like guys. I notice them more than the women around this place.” He admitted a bit easier. Maybe it was because he was already use to this discovery. That he was attracted to men a bit more than women. -- Cora rolled her eyes at Derek. “We do not need babysitters attached to our hips. We’re all capable of doing things without “adults” around.” She took a sip of her water as she listened again. “Have you always liked guys or is this something that’s new?” She wanted to know. She was curious. And she definitely wanted to get all the answers that she could now before Derek changed his mind and closed himself off again. * “Started happening while living here.” He replied as he watched the food be placed before them. Already he came to pick at a fry and eat it as he watched Cora for the moment. “Are you done asking me a million questions now?” He doubted she was, but it was worth a shot in asking, right. -- “Ah.” Had it already been that long since the waitress took their orders? She hadn’t realized how much time had passed until their food was placed down before them. “For now.” She really couldn’t think of anything else to ask. She grabbed a fry of her own and ate it. “Unless there is other things that you feel like sharing with me without me having to pester you.” She doubted it, but it was worth a shot. * Derek came to grab at his burger for the moment to take a bite, but stopped when asked if there was anything else he’d like to share with her. “I may or may not be crushing on someone right now.” He informed her for the moment as he took a bite out of the burger finally. He figured he might as well inform her, before she starts asking a million questions once more and drive him crazy. Not to mention, she lived with him so he could already imagine the headache that would be in the future. From her and their other sister. -- And here came the hundreds of questions that popped into her head at that statement. Cora leaned forward and then asked, “Who is it?” She wondered if it was anyone at the party or was it someone that she hadn’t seen or met yet. “Well, come on. Don’t keep me waiting.” * “Just a guy I meet a few weeks ago. Doubt he realizes it or thinks the same so no point in digging into it.” He replied with a shrug of his shoulders as he came to bite into his burger finally. But he stopped after one chew and looked to Cora. “Cora… Drop it..” He said, knowing how she was already. -- Cora rolled her eyes. God, her brother was clueless and sometimes an idiot. “You really need to get over this whole no point bs that you like to do.” She ate a fry and leaned back once again. “Consider it dropped.” For now anyway. It didn’t mean she wouldn’t bring it up at some other point in time. |
