I'd say it's a complicated place, but I suppose I don't really have the knowledge to make a comparison. Probably the main thing point is that one of the biggest global political issues isn't between any particular countries, but between humans and mutants, and to a lesser extent anyone who has some kind of ability that stands out from other humans. We've got everything from magicians to aliens and genetically enhanced experiments. But mutants are the most divisive. They typically start showing some kind of change around puberty and there are a lot of anti-mutant hate groups and general ill-feeling. Which might be understandable when there are people walking around who can blow up New York City without a bomb, but ordinary humans have the advantage of numbers. Lots of numbers.
Most of us who are here have been members of one of the groups that try to keep the peace and take down any threats. Usually mutants join the X-Men and anyone else joins the Avengers, and both of them have different subgroups and also both run schools. Probably two of the most well-defended places on the planet, which says something about the danger of some of the hate groups.
