He damn near choked on his coffee at that remark. Sam felt the burst of laughter rising up in his throat and had to clamp his jaws together to keep it, and the coffee he still had in his mouth, from escaping. He swallowed quickly before he finally allowed himself a chuckle. At her joke, and his own ridiculous response. "I guess I set myself up for that one, didn't I?"
He sat back in his chair and glanced around the room before turning his gaze back to Rory. None of the other book club members had turned up yet. If they had, he'd probably have opted for his standard "Family business" speech. But maybe since it was just the two of them, he could be a little more honest.
"Where I'm from, all the monsters you've ever heard of are real. Vampires, Werewolves, Demons, Ghosts. You name it. And my family hunts them. It's what I grew up with. But I wasn't really interested in doing that forever, you know? So I went off to college and I met a girl I wanted to marry. I had all these plans for a normal life. But my old life caught up with me. Some things happened unexpectedly that forced me back into hunting again. And after that, there was always something keeping me around. I couldn't ever really get back out again. Until I ended up here."
