Caboose tipped his head to the side, trying to understand exactly what the woman meant, and was very glad when the woman was nice enough to explain about the shoes. Looking at them, he reached out and took the broken shoe. He looked at it for a moment, turning it over in his hands. "This is a pretty shoe," she said. "Looks difficult to walk in, though. Maybe that's why they're mean to you."
Whether the shoes were mean or nice, Caboose pulled a tube of glue from his pocket. The man at the store had told hi it was the strongest, fastest glue on the planet, and Caboose had no reason to distrust him. After all, in the blink of an eye, Caboose had accidentally glued together the first two fingers of his left hand and even hours later, they were still stuck together. Of course, his deflated balloon fell out of his pocket, too, but he didn't notice.
Very carefully, he glued the heel back onto the shoe, waited for a second, then tested it. "Here you go," he said, proudly holding the shoe out to her.
