Somewhere this conversation had gone horribly off-track, and Laura didn't have the faintest clue where it had been. She paused, mentally replaying the whole thing in her mind before deciding that she must be lacking the information required to comprehend the undercurrents and emotions. "Neither am I," she admitted, because that at least she understood. People were constantly telling her where she belonged - the Institute, with other mutants; the Avengers Academy; X-Force - or, worse, telling her it was her choice and then getting upset when the answer she came up with wasn't what they wanted. It was confusing, and she had hoped to be away from it here, but it seemed it would follow her regardless. It was Magneto's announcement that had drawn her out into the night in the first place. She didn't want more of this tugging to and fro, other people telling her where she should live and with whom simply because she was a mutant. "I have a name I don't like much, too. Laura is who I want to be. X-23 is what people want to use me for." Even those she'd thought she could trust, sometimes.
