Laura could sense some of Sally's emotional turmoil, but didn't understand the reason for it. The politics behind introductions in the world of mutants - and of non-mutant superheroes - could be complex enough that it was easy to miss that there was meaning in what name you chose to provide. Most of the other teenagers at the Xavier Institute during her time there had given both, but usually a teacher had introduced her themselves, wanting to supervise her first contact with other students on account of her history.
She was proud of her human name, though. In many ways her names were the reverse of most mutants - she had been assigned the codename X-23 at conception, and only became Laura Kinney as her mother lay dying in the snow four years ago. She had sacrificed everything she'd known for her name. She understood the personal importance they could have, but not the implications others might draw from them. Her expression was somewhat perplexed as she shook Sally's hand. "You are troubled," she observed, not one to avoid stating the obvious. "Have I... upset you?"
