That gave Eliot pause. He was a person who valued his privacy. His immediate impulse was to tell her sorry, but no. And yet, he stopped himself and tried to consider everything before he reacted. He didn't want to be the sort of person who would deny her over something she couldn't help.
At long last, he finally spoke up again. "I'd need you to stay out of my thoughts best you can. Not just for my sake, but for yours." His voice had dropped to a low, quiet register as he spoke. And he'd uncrossed his arms to lean against the bartop instead. "I've been in some bad places. Done bad things. Gone up against bad people. And occassionally memories pop back up in my head. You don't- I don't want someone like you having to hear that kind of thing."
