Even hearing a plate drop and shatter on the ground in Noah's direction couldn't break the eye contact as Barb marveled at Nev. That glowy and joyful look was all she really needed to see.
"It's kind of a long story," Barb said, blushing as she smiled back, looking down in embarrassment. Looking back up, though, there was certainty in her eyes. "That long story ends, though, in me asking you out on a real date. No casual coffees this time. I want to take you to dinner. My treat. And I want to dress up and hold your hand. And if you don't feel the same way, that's perfectly fine, I'll just leave and you won't have to worry about me bothering you."
