Can You Do Me a Favor?
Who: Dawn and Star-Lord
Where: The Shopping District
When: Two weeks ago, before any baddies showed up
Feeling a little bit bored today, and not really sure what to do with herself normally, Dawn figured that she could go out and go shopping. Not that she had a ton of money to do so with or anything, but even mostly window shopping was better than sitting in her room and staring at a wall. Of course, most of the fun of the shopping district was just wandering around and looking at all that was for sale, since they had stuff that not even Dawn could have dreamed of. It wasn't that it was easy to forget that she was technically in space, but sometimes the reminders were enough to blow her mind completely.
Both from a longing to see things that reminded him of home, AND from a curiosity to see how the refugees were coping with all this, Peter Quill had decided to take a stroll through the shopping district that had been built into Knowhere. He had to admit: while it was bad that these poor folks were being snatched from their realities, he REALLY liked the changes in Knowhere that Stark and McCoy had begun with this place in order to properly accommodate them.
Giving a little grin as he passed a small storefront that seemed to sell various forms of jewelry from different cultures and worlds, he paused to see if they had anything that he could get for Kitty, when he noticed Dawn. He'd never properly met her, just spoken briefly through the network, but he knew Cosmo adored her. Which meant she might be able to help him right now.
Sprinting away to catch up with the girl, he gave a lopsided grin as he called out to her. "Hey! Dawn? Dawn Summers?"
Dawn looked up in surprise when she saw one of the guys in charge of this place. An admittedly really CUTE guy. Good way to pass the time. "Yeah, that's me," she said with a smile.
"Sorry to kinda ambush you here.... how're you holding up so far? I know a lot of people have come and gone, which doesn't make this any easier on any of you..." He asked, trying to make small talk before just... jumping in to ask for a favor.
"It's OK. I'm really just staving off some boredom at the moment anyway," she told him. "I'm doing alright. How are you guys doing? I mean, this is a huge undertaking, dealing with all of us."
"For the most part everything's been pretty good." Peter told her, scrunching his face a little as he looked for his next words. "I think we've all gotten rattled once or twice by some of the sudden departures. That's actually why I ran up to you actually. Cosmo seems to think very highly of you. And... I know this is gonna sound weird as hell, but... he's been a little depressed lately. He's a very intelligent, very powerful dog... but at the end of the day he's still a dog. And Beckett poofing really affected him. He got really attached to her while they were working together. And I think he's sort of like a dog who got abandoned now. He's smart enough to know she didn't leave him on purpose, but that hurt is still there. So.. I guess I was wondering if you'd mind trying to spend some time with him."
She took a second to take everything in that he said. "Of course I wouldn't mind spending extra time with Cosmo," she insisted. "He managed to make me feel extra welcome when I arrived, after all. Why wouldn't I want to spend more time with him?"
"I'm kind of impressed that you're handling this all so well. I mean, I know your sister is here too, but I've barely seen her. You though? You've just started adapting to this all as easily as if it was a normal day." He said, just wanting her to know someone noticed her bravery. "Like I said: impressive."
She just smiled. "If you knew more about my life at home, you'd realize that this is only really slightly above normal." Really, being in space was the only weird part.
"You know what, kid? You need ANYTHING, anything at all, you let me know, alright? We have some of the other... visitors... that we trust helping out, and I can say that you're one of the most trustworthy people I've met here so far." He hated calling them 'refugees'... somehow it felt so informal and objectifying to him.
Dawn nodded at him. She'd actually really like something to do around here. Some way of helping out. "I'll make sure to," she said to him.
