One of Mon-El’s favorite things in the universe was laying in bed with Kara in the mornings. The sunlight would stream in through the windows, making the whole room look as warm as he felt. He would hold her and she’d lay her head on his chest, listening to his heart beat. They would murmur to each other, talking and laughing about nothing and everything. After losing Kara, he cherished every minute with her. But mornings always felt extra special. He ran his fingers gently through her hair, contentedly listening to the sounds of her breathing. The room was warm and hazy with morning sunlight. He hummed a little tune for a moment, then opened his mouth and began to sing to her. “I’m walking fast through traffic lights. Busy streets and busy lives. And all we know is touch and go. We are alone with our changing minds. We fall in love till it hurts or bleeds, or fades in time. And I never saw you coming, and I’ll never be the same.” Kara loved waking up to Mon-El, they had so much go wrong for them and now this felt, this was right for them. She groaned softly as she heard his voice, singing, Her eyes fluttered open, giving a little sigh, Leaning up a little, her eyes looked into his, her voice softly sung, “You come around and the armor falls, pierce the room like a cannonball. Now all we know, is don’t let go.” In response to her words, Mon-El pulled her just a little bit closer. “We are alone, just you and I. Up in your room, and our slates are clean. Just twin fire signs, four blue eyes.” He leaned over and kissed Kara’s temple. With a soft chuckle and a waggle of her brows, Kara answered, “So you were never a saint, and I’ve loved in shades of wrong. We learn to live with the pain. Mosaic broken hearts. But this love is brave and wild.” They were brave and wild, two races that had history of hate for each other, here they were in love. It was true. Loving Kara was the bravest thing Mon-El had ever done. She had changed him for the better in almost every possible way. Something he’d never imagined when they first met. “And I never saw you coming. And I’ll never be the same. This is a state of grace. This is the worthwhile fight. Love is a ruthless game, unless you play it good and right.” Mon-El had left more than one broken heart in his wake without ever thinking twice about it. But with Kara he’d learned there was a better way. He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it lightly. “These are the hands of fate, you’re my Achilles heel. This is the golden age of something good and right and real.” This time, their voices joined together for the chorus. “And I never saw it coming, and I’ll never be the same. And I never saw you coming, and I’ll never be the same.” After they sung together, A very smitten smile graced her lips, he was worth fighting for, she had fought for him in the past. Yes even though they lost, here they were, together. "This is a state of grace." she sung softly at him, her hand moved to his shoulder. He covered her hand with his, overcome with just how much he loved her. "This is a worthwhile fight." The music around them began to fade and they sang the final words together. "Love is a ruthless game, unless you play it good and right." Mon-El brought his forehead down to rest gently against hers. "I love you, Kara." With their foreheads touching, she pressed up and kissed his lips after he told her that he loves her. "I love you too," she whispered softly. Mon-El smiled into her kiss, enjoying the moment. When they broke apart, he gave her an impish look. "Singing makes me hungry. We should get pancakes." Kara shoved him lightly and laughed, "what doesn't make you hungry?" she challenged at him before she stole another quick kiss and moved to get out of bed so they could start their day. The song included in this scene is State of Grace by Taylor Swift. |
