"It's kinda hard to really put into words," she said. "We both arrived the same day and met right after that, while we were still getting a solid footing."
Her eyes seemed to darken even more, the shadows growing deeper even though she didn't need them as much. "I didn't tell you, but I got pulled out of an attack. Aunt Daisy, Connor and I were up against a group of agents that had been tipped off by someone who got freaked out when they saw my eyes. All of these scars have a story like that, and it's been drilled into me to not trust humans, to not let people know I'm a mutant."
She really hoped she wasn't making Sam feel badly about anything, but it was all part of what made Noah fit into her life.
"When I met Noah, though, he was the one who revealed himself first. He's not a mutant, but he was hunted, too, and he knows the struggle of having to hide all the time. Except for my family and a few other mutants, he's the first person that ever made me feel good about my abilities. He wasn't freaked out when he saw my eyes, and he was impressed by my abilities instead of scared."
She paused to look at Sam, wondering if she was making any sense. "He made me feel comfortable, and like it was okay to just be me. He's sweet and he always makes me feel better about whatever's happening."
