After school had let out that afternoon, Henry and Lucy made their way to the park. It had rapidly become one of Henry’s favorite places in Knowhere, and he’d introduced Lucy to his favorite spot. There was a giant tree toward the edge of a pond. Swans and ducks floated on the water and wildflowers grew nearby. It was peaceful and beautiful, and Henry had unofficially claimed it as his own private place. He’d been happy to share it with Lucy, though. They were family, after all. Tossing their book bags aside, Henry and his future daughter sank down into the grass and enjoyed the sunshine after being cooped up all day. Heads together, they seriously discussed Lucy’s plans for breaking the curse her family was under, and what troubles she’d already run into. “I wish the book was here,” Lucy informed Henry, “Older you gave it to me before the curse took over the Enchanted Forest.” One would think hanging out with her father’s younger self would freak Lucy out, but spending time with him and her Grandmother was just a dream come true. Sighing she leaned back against the tree. She moved some of her hair back and went to tell Henry something, suddenly she found herself...singing. “I messed up tonight, I lost another fight. I still mess up, but I'll just start again. I keep falling down, I keep on hitting the ground. I always get up now to see what's next.” she sat up, looking a little confused, but she did feel like she messed up on trying to wake her parents up. Henry gave her a warm smile and scooted closer to where she was sitting at the base of the tree. He knew exactly how Lucy was feeling about the curse, and the last thing he wanted was for her to feel badly and give up. He picked up her song where she had left of, singing along with the music that had begun to play around them. “Birds don't just fly, they fall down and get up. Nobody learns without getting it wrong. I won't give up, no I won't give in. Till I reach the end, and then I'll start again.” He was right, she knew it. How many times have their family beaten the curse? She nodded her head to his words in song. She knew she had to fall down to try again, “No, I won’t leave, I wanna try everything. I wanna try, even though I could fail. I won't give up, no I won't give in, till I reach the end. and then I'll start again. No I won't leave, I wanna try everything. I wanna try even though I could fail.” Henry beamed at her words, and their two voices joined together. “Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh try everything! Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, try everything.” Henry moved himself so he was sitting beside her. He sang to Lucy everything he’d wished that he could have heard when he first brought Emma to Storybrooke. “Look how far you've come. You filled your heart with love. Baby you've done enough, take a deep breath, don't beat yourself up, don't need to run so fast. Sometimes we come last but we did our best.” Even though this was the younger version of her dad, she took his words to heart. He had given her a plan before the curse hit them, he sent her through the other side to help wake him and her mother up. Determined, she sang out, "I won't give up, no I won't give in, till I reach the end. And then I'll start again. No, I won’t leave, I wanna try everything. I wanna try even though I could fail. I won't give up, no I won't give in till I reach the end. And then I'll start again! No I won't leave, I wanna try everything. I wanna try even though I could fail!" Her face turned to him, as they both sang out, "I'll keep on making those new mistakes, I'll keep on making them every day. Those new mistakes. Oh oh, try everything!" Suddenly the music stopped, her eyes widen as she looked to Henry, "Did we just...." Henry laughed, enjoying the moment. “We definitely did.” Lucy joined in the laughter, shaking her head at Henry. The song used in this scene is Try Everything by Shakira. |
