Cleo couldn’t help but smile as she surveyed the Crashdown that evening. It was a Tuesday, so it wasn’t extraordinarily busy, but it was currently filled with some of her favorite people. People who she’d never have met if she hadn’t have ended up on this floating head in space. Her life had been destined to be abnormal from the moment she became a slayer, but Knowhere was something she never could have prepared for. Guitar music began to fill the air with an upbeat tempo and Cleo shoved aside the salt and pepper shakers that she’d been filling. “Right, right, turn of the lights, we gonna lose our minds tonight, what’s the dealio?” She moved to the center of the floor and pulled Jamie alongside her as she began to dance. “I love when it’s all too much, five am turn the radio up, where’s the rock ‘n roll?” Getting into the spirit, Jamie began jamming on an air guitar. Cleo danced her way over to Karolina and began to twirl her. “Party crasher, panty snatcher. Call me up if you a gangsta. Don't be fancy, just get dancey.” She pointed over to Noah for the next line, “Why so serious?” As the chorus hit, the music swelled and Cleo hopped up and down as she sang to the patrons. “So raise your glass if you are wrong, in all the right ways! All my underdogs! We will never be never be, anything but loud, and nitty gritty, dirty little freaks. Won't you come on and come on and raise your glass! Just come on and come on and raise your glass!” She continued to dance around the diner, encouraging anyone and everyone to join her. “Slam, slam, oh hot damn. What part of party don’t you understand? Wish you’d just freak out. Can’t stop, coming in hot, I should be locked up right on the spot. It’s so on right now. Party crasher, panty snatcher. Call me up if you a gangsta.” Aves was sitting nearby in a booth and Cleo grinned infectiously and headed in her direction. “Don’t be fancy, just get dancey.” She stuck out her tongue at the other girl. “Why so serious?” She tugged Aves out of the booth and up onto her feet. It took some cajoling, but eventually the brunette began to dance with her. Cleo threw back her head as she continued to sing, “So raise your glass if you are wrong, in all the right ways! All my underdogs! We will never be never be, anything but loud, and nitty gritty, dirty little freaks.” The music slowed and Cleo hopped up to sit on the bar. “So if you’re too school for cool, and you’re treated like a fool. You can choose to let it go, we can always, we can always, party on our own.” This time, several voices joined in with hers and Cleo stood on a barstool to cheer them on before jumping down to join in again. “So raise your glass if you are wrong, in all the right ways! All my underdogs! We will never be never be, anything but loud, and nitty gritty, dirty little freaks! Won’t you come on and come on and raise your glass! Just come on and come on and raise your glass! Won’t you come on and come on and raise your glass. Just come on and come on and raise your glass for me!” There was a chorus of cheers and raised glasses as the music died away and the song ended. Cleo couldn’t stop smiling. |
