Noah was in his apartment getting some real food with Aves when he got word that his Uncle was in the hospital. It shocked him. The hospital? Why was he there when they had healers on their team? Did he get separated from the group? What happened? He had so many questions running through his head as he went for his shoes. "We gotta go. Uncle Kyle is in the hospital" He told the girl who was probably wondering why he was in such a sudden panic after one phone call. Luckily they were in the middle of eating and not cooking or they would have a possible fire on their hands because he would probably forget to turn everything off. "Grab the plates. We'll finish eating in the waiting room"
Seeing Noah's reaction to the phone call, Aves got a sinking feeling. Hearing about his uncle, she jumped up from her chair and hurried to slip her shoes on. She put force fields over the plates and drinks and gathered everything up in the plastic bag she'd left on the kitchen counter. By the time Noah was ready to leave, so was she. As he hurried out the door, Aves locked it behind them and hurried after him. She didn't want to slow him down. She threw a quick prayer up for his uncle's health. Had it been one of her family, she'd have probably been just as panicked as he was. All she could really do was be there for him, and she was glad he hadn't told her to just go home.
They made it to the hospital as quick as they could with the shuttle and got in the elevator to go to the floor he was on. Noah nervously held onto Aves as they . "He should have been healed. Why wasn't he healed?" He muttered, looking up at the numbers. They seemed to go up as slow as possible just to make him wait more. He willed them to go faster but it wasn't working. "He shouldn't be here right now" He told Aves, speaking more clearly to let her know he was talking to her.
His worry was clear, and Aves wished she could take it away for him. Not being blessed with that gift, she did the only thing she could: offer support. She shifted to put her arm around his waist. "The doctors here are supposed to be really good," she said. "Maybe they just got to him first somehow." She hoped that was the case. If something had happened and his family couldn't heal the man, she could only imagine what that might mean. And although Aves didn't know him, she didn't want Noah to suffer through a loss.
"Yeah maybe" He replied before deciding that's what it was with a nod of his head. "No that's probably what it was. I knew he went off with Aunt Isabel to check that one place" He told her, thinking about the last time he saw him before everything ended. "Maybe he got hurt then and no one could reach him right away" He went on as the elevator dinged to say they had hit another floor. It wasn't the one they needed but they were getting closer.
The elevator seemed slow to Aves, but she knew it was probably just her nerves. She was pretty sure his Aunt Isabel didn't have healing abilities like his Aunt Liz did. She hadn't had a chance to really learn how their abilities worked, but she wasn't about to ask about any possible limitations on them while his uncle wasn't well. Not knowing what to say to help, she just held onto him, her hand resting gently on his side.
Finally the doors opened and they walked out together, his arm wrapped tightly around her. He was glad she had been with him when he got the call or he wouldn't be so calm right now. She was helping him more than she knew. His eyes scanned the sign across the elevator for what direction the waiting room was in then they headed that way. Right away, he went into hug Liz, who is the one that called him. Alex was there too but the two didn't hug, as it wasn't a very manly thing to do. "It's nice to see you again, Aves" Alex told her with a nod of his head from where he was sitting.
Aves hung back as Noah greeted his family. She may have fought beside them for the invasion, but she didn't know them well. When Alex greeted her, she gave him a little smile. "Nice to see you, too," she said. "Is there anything I can do?" Since she wasn't a member of the family, it only made sense if she helped them with something. Coffees, maybe? Did they even drink coffee?
"Isabel went to get coffee so I don't think so but thank you for the offer" Alex told her with small smile of his own as he stood up. "I'm going to go see what's taking her so long"
Noah pulled away from the hug as Alex walked away and moved to sit down in a set of chairs near him, leaving one open for Aves beside him. "Maria is in there right now talking to the doctor" Liz told them as she reached up and ran a hand through her hair. Being Kyle's only family connection, Maria was the only one allowed in the room at the moment.
"Hopefully it's good news" Noah commented, motioning for Aves to join him. Reaching out, he grabbed the bag from her and began getting their food out. There was no reason why they couldn't eat while they waited for the news.
"I'm going to go check on Isabella. Text me if there's any news" Liz told them before walking away herself so she didn't disturb them or anyone else around with her phone call.
She nodded and made sure she wasn't standing in his way as Alex left. Her attention was back on Noah by the time the other man left. She stood quietly for a moment, thanking God that her own brother and aunt hadn't been dragged along with her in time for the invasion. Noah motioning her over snapped her out of her thoughts, and she joined him. She gave a little smile to his aunt, then accepted her plate of food, dissipating the shadow covers once the plates were properly balanced.
With their group back down to just the two of them, Aves looked at Noah from the corner of her eye while she took the first bite. It really was a great meal, but the situation took a little something away from it. "Doubling the cheese was the right call," she said, not really sure what else to say.
