Amber had quickly learned never to take her days off from the hospital for granted. Psych wasn't quite the madhouse that surgery seemed to be, but they certainly had their fair share of headaches and emergencies. And she would revel in all the peace she could get on her days away. It had been severely tempting to stay in her sweats and lounge around the apartment all day, but Sloan had finished the last of the coffee that morning and a girl needed her caffeine fix. So she'd gotten herself together, walked across the park, and headed toward the nearest coffee shop. The smell of freshly ground beans and baked goods hit her as soon as she opened the door. A smile crept across her face in response and she headed toward the counter to order. A few minutes later, latte in hand, Amber settled down at a table with a newspaper (flown in from...somewhere, she assumed). The afternoon sunlight streamed in through the windows and warmed her skin. The latte warmed her even more and she was debating going back for a muffin when she spotted a familiar face out of the corner of her eye. She’s known Kyle Valenti briefly in Storybrooke. Briefly meaning that she’d ended up at a Superbowl party he’d thrown once. And she was fairly certain they hadn’t said more than twenty words to each other in total. But it was still something, at least. She waited until she caught his eye, then flashed him a smile and a wave. |
