Who: Ellie and Kat Where: Doom Republic, Kat's workshop When: Prior to this post What: Ellie gets a ship all her own. Rating: PG-13 Status: Closed; Complete
Since she only had a half-day at school today, Ellie had arranged to work at Sin and Quinn's for the remainder of the afternoon. She knew that she wasn't going to make a career out of it or anything, but she did enjoy working there. Not knowing the first thing about color-coordination, she was wearing green cargo's and a purple tank-top that had 'Swoleregard's Gym' printed on the chest and a drawing of a monk flexing her muscles. Ellie? Was a big damn nerd. About half-way through her shift she went on break and decided to text Kat. 'Are you still coming by later?' She hit send.
Kat had been working night-and-day the last few weeks trying to finish the small starship she'd been rebuilding. She knew how badly Ellie wanted to actually see the stars up-close, and with Rocket off-planet, probably on some kind of vision quest to re-find himself, Kat decided to take the wreckage of one of his old ships and start rebuilding it, just for her and Ellie.
She was nearly done though, finally. She still needed to pretty it up some (new paint, buffing out some dings and dents, etc), but once she finished sealing the coolant tubing in the ship's motherboard? It was ready to go. Of course, in finishing that tubing, she was currently suspended from a harness, upside-down, inside the flooring when her phone went off. She was wearing coveralls over a Ghost tee, with thick worker's gloves on her hands and welder's goggles on her face, the loud, angry sound of Cannibal Corpse playing in the workshop as she looked at her phone, grinning when she saw it was Ellie.
She took the gloves off, remaining where she was otherwise, so she could text her back. 'Hey babe! I'm upside down right now. Blood to my brain? May be an issue soon. Maybe come by here instead? When you're done, obvs. I kinda have a surprise for you, and it should be done by then.'
Ellie blinked. Well, so much for doing something different. Still, she could only assume that Kat meant well when she said that she had a surprise. Kat generally did a lot of stuff in her workshop, so Ellie didn't think much of the extra time that she'd put into it lately (beyond assuming that it was just filling in time in Rocket's absence). Ellie scratched a thumb over the scar on her right eyebrow and nodded to herself. 'OK, Batwoman. Be careful. xox'
'Trust me. These last few weeks of work? ALL FOR YOU.' Kat wrote, knowing this would leave Ellie absolutely speechless. She wanted to give this to her more than anything, to make one of her dreams come true. 'Be prepared for one of the most amazing nights of your life!!!', she added, not feeling as though she was overhyping this at all.
Ellie chuckled. 'Any night with you is one of the most amazing nights of my life' she pointed out. It was overly sappy to say, but the fact that she had it in her to say anything like that at all was a big milestone. She smiled to herself and pocketed her phone before heading back to work, wondering what her girlfriend was up to.
Sure enough, a few hours later Kat had indeed finished her work, and had gone off to shower and change. By the time Ellie was set to arrive, Kat had moved the ship (with the help of Groot and some very sturdy lifting equipment) to the field near where the family lived.
The ship definitely needed a good paint job, and to have some rust and debris removed from the outer hull, but overall? It was a beauty. Roughly the size of two mobile homes put together, it was small by starship standards, but still big enough to walk around in and be comfortable in. Kat sat atop the ship, in black nylon shorts and a snug white sleeveless tee, looking both adorable and QUITE pleased with herself as she waited.
Ellie was a buzz of hyperactive energy through the remainder of her shift, drumming her hands on her thighs, straightening out the stock, talking excitedly with Sin and any customer that happened along. She always got into an adorable headspace when she knew that she was about to see Kat. As soon as she clocked off, she hurried on over to Kat's workshop, but slowed when she saw the ship in the open field, and, curious, she made her way over. Seeing Kat sitting up there, she couldn't help it but let out a delighted laugh. "What the... actual fuck?"
"Hey there, pretty lady!" Kat called down to her, still looking hilariously smug. "So, I remember you mentioning a while back that one of your biggest dreams was to be among the stars... so I thought, 'Hey, self? You know what you should do? Build your awesome girlfriend her very own ship'. So I spent the last month basically squirreled away in the workshop building this thing from a hollowed out old husk, and finally finished it about two hours ago."
She looked at Ellie, taking just a moment to think back to their first kiss, and smiled. "So, whaddaya say? Feel like going for an evening flight above Galador?"
In an imitation of Keanu Reeves, all Ellie could think to say was: "Whoa." She circled the spaceship, looking at all the nooks and crannies as she traced her fingertips along the hull. Holy fucking shit was that a big gesture. "Wait." She backed up a few steps so she could look at Kat again. "You can fly it?"
"Babe, I can fly any krutackin' ship you put in front of me." Kat said with that arrogance that, somehow, was cute coming from her. "But if you're asking me if this ship is fully functional? Flarkin' right it is. I just gotta touch up the outside so it doesn't look like crap."
Ellie's eyebrows shot up. "I don't know how you got to be so damn talented, babe. Seriously. I'm floored." She also had no idea how Kat got all the way up there. "Can you come down here so I can thank you properly?" It should come as no surprise that her 'thank you' was going to involve a big smooch.
"I consider it a combination of my birth father's genes and my adopted daddy's teaching." She beamed, holding up a finger as if to say 'one sec', before slipping down into the ship. After a few seconds of rummaging noises, the entryway to the ship opened, with Kat leaning against the doorway. "For the record? I also installed a state-of-the-art autopilot feature, so we can have some smoochies amongst the stars."
"Gasp! You didn't?" Ellie asked as she bound up the gangplank to wrap her arms around Kat in a big bear-hug. She kissed her along her neck, her cheeks and then gave her a long, lingering kiss on the lips. "I think this makes you the best girlfriend ever, just FYI."
"Hee. Annnnnd now you understand why I've been so unavailable the past few weeks. I've been working on this for you pretty much any minute where I'm not sleeping or in school." Kat told her. This was a labor of love. She loved Ellie with everything in her, and desperately wanted to give her something nobody else could or would.
Well, she had certainly done that. Ellie lifted her up and spun her around a few times. She honestly didn't want to let her go. "Thankyouthankyouthankyou," was all she could think to say. No one had ever loved her as fiercely as Kat did. She only hoped that she was worth it. "Hey, so, quick question," she started to say, semi-seriously as she set Kat back down on her feet and held her gaze. She leaned over to whisper into her ear: "Can I keep you?"
"Forever and ever." Kat told her sweetly, nipping playfully at the tip of her nose. "So.... ready to fly, gorgeous?" She asked, wagging her eyebrows teasingly. "And we'll have to get Uncle Groot a little thank you gift soon. I could NOT have gotten this done as quickly as I did without him."
"We'll get him something nice," Ellie promised. Of course, she had no idea what kind of gift to get him--but that was the future versions of Kat and Ellie to worry about! To Kat's question, she nodded eagerly. "I'll go wherever you wanna take me."
"C'mon then. I wanna show you something." Kat grinned, sweetly as happy as if she'd been given a gift. She took Ellie's hand and led her into the passenger area of the ship, tapping a few buttons on the wall... before the ship's ceiling suddenly became transparent. "This is so that, once we're up there? We can snuggle in here and gaze at the stars together while the auto-pilot does it's thang."
"Damn." Ellie gave Kat's hand a squeeze as she looked up at the now transparent ceiling, eyes full of wonder. "I love that big, beautiful brain of yours, baby."
"Yeah... sometimes I amaze even myself." Kat replied with a BIG grin, looking around at her handiwork. "So... anything you need to do first? Or you wanna go strap in for takeoff?"
"... I can think of one thing," Ellie murmured. She cupped Kat's cheeks and held her gaze for a moment before kissing her; keeping it soft and sweet. "I love you. I'm amazed and blown away that you did this for me." She kissed her again, this time a long and lingering one. "Thank you."
"You're welcome." Kat said, once she got over the intensity of the moment. "Now... let's go show you what outer space looks like."
After a few minutes of preparation, interspersed with random kisses and declarations of love, the two were finally ready. Ellie was safely secured in her seat in the main passenger section, and Kat was sitting in the cockpit, flicking switches and starting equipment up so easily that it would be shocking to anyone who didn't know her background. Soon enough, the ship had left the atmosphere, and was safely off-world.
Once she set the auto-pilot on, Kat unbuckled herself from the pilot's seat and made her way to where Ellie was, grinning ear-to-ear. "Lookit this. She flies perfectly. Daddy's gonna be so flarkin' impressed when he hears about it. Anyway... go ahead and unbuckle, we're safe to walk around now."
"... I might need a minute," Ellie replied, hilariously wide-eyed. Hey, it was her first time in a spaceship! Cut her some slack. "Not sure if'm gonna barf or if my heart just stopped or what." There was a very long moment of silence, and then: "HOLY FUCK. Did you just do that? You didn't just do that?" She laughed uproariously, unbuckled, and catapulted into Kat's arms, hugging her tightly before... just seeing that view. "Oh... wow."
"Yeah. And now.... watch this." Kat giggled, managing to get one arm free to hit that button again... making the roof and walls of the ship go transparent. "Now how's this for your first real view of space?"
"Whoa." With no real sense of what was up and what was down, Ellie lost her balance. She took Kat's hand and asked for them to sit down, which they did, and then she just... admired the view. "I think this moment, right here, with you," she looked at Kat with tears in her eyes, "has to be the most perfect moment of my entire life."
Kat stroked her hair, for once not having any kind of snarky or flirty comment to make. She knew this was a big moment for Ellie, and she loved the girl enough to get the gravity of it. "And I'm completely honored to be able to give it to you, honey. I love you more than I knew I could ever love anyone."
Ellie sniffled and rested her head on Kat's shoulder. "I love you so much sometimes it feels like my heart'll burst outta my chest." She paused. "Kinda graphic when you think about it." She glanced up at Kat and smirked. "Think we can stay up here a while?"
Kat nodded, kissing Ellie's forehead lovingly. "We can. We're fueled enough to be up here at least five or six hours. I was kinda hoping we could snuggle like this, gaze at the stars together... maybe cross "sex in space" off the bucket list..."
Ellie snorted. "Correction: 'Multiple orgasms in space'." No wonder these two were perfect for each other - it was hard to know where one ended and the other began. With a smirk, she kissed a particularly sensitive spot on Kat's neck. "That sounds perfect."
Kat's eyes widened, before Ellie's words sunk in in a different way, and she gave a hilariously mortified groan. "Oh god. After all these years it finally hit me what Uncle Pete meant when he told Daddy years ago that The Milano would look like a Jackson Pollock painting under a blacklight... thank god I have the gravity in here regulated..."
Ellie cracked up. "Your Uncle Pete kinda sounds like my new hero," she teased. She laid down on the floor and tugged Kat to lay down beside her. "That does sound like a good way to christen the ship, though."
"You know..." Kat giggled as they sprawled out on the floor, "I was gonna make a joke about putting on a show for anyone who might happen to fly by, but if we're being honest, the transparency is one-way."
Ellie propped herself up on one elbow and looked down at Kat. "Let's pretend it isn't. I want the universe to see how much I love you."
"You always know the most perfect things to say..." Kat sighed happily, looking up at Ellie. This was the girl she wanted to spend the rest of her life with, and there was nothing she was more sure of. "I'll always try to think of more things to do for you... because you deserve more than anyone could give you."
"The greatest gift you've ever given me was you." It felt incredibly smarmy to say that aloud, but it didn't make it any less true. Ellie smiled lopsidedly, then lowered to give Kat a tender kiss on the lips.
Kat kissed her, passionately, with the kind of desire most couples lose after the initial 'honeymoon period'. It was starting to look like these two just might be in that period forever. "Orgasms in space?" Kat asked, wagging her eyebrows as she casually slid a hand between them, slowly moving it downward.
Ellie grinned broadly. "Title of our sex tape," she agreed, making room between them. As long as she had the love of this woman, she knew that her world was just as it should be. Perfect.
"Ready to break this thing in in the most excellent way possible?" Kat asked, that adorable twinkle of mischief in her eyes.
