"Ok... so, just asking here... who exactly heard me propose being in charge of a business and decided that sounded like a great idea?"
Laura sat at her desk at Open Arms, surrounded by what looked like enough paperwork to be a torn-up novel. She'd decided to start putting things in motion for the singles mixer she'd mentioned on the network, but was clearly in over her head here.
"Is it possible for there to be more paperwork now than there was when I started? Because I think the paper has multiplied. Like, literally multiplied. Like tribbles or The Hufflepuff Cup."
"There's definitely something nefarious at play," Billie agreed with a wrinkle of her nose. She set down a fresh mug of coffee near Laura (not that she needed it for how hyper she was!). "Want some help to sort through it?" She offered. She wasn't the type to stand aside and watch others have adorable meltdowns. "Shouldn't take more than half a jiff."
"You would be my new best friend for all eternity." Laura replied with a frustrated laugh. "I tried to do some of this at home last night, but then Carm came in wearing these tight leather pants and..." she stopped immediately, and cleared her throat loudly. "and that almost went directly into TMI-land. I guess I thought on another planet, things like bills and rent and contracts wouldn't be a thing, you know? But here they are. Being all... thing-y."
"A necessary evil, I'm afraid," Billie agreed. She sat down beside Laura and looked over the paperwork, trying to figure out what the other woman's filing system was before moving things around. "I'm glad that Carm... found a way to distract you, though. All work and no play makes Laura a dull girl."
"Not sure how well you know Carm so far, but trust me: when she's around things are 100% never dull." Laura said with a laugh, the happy smile on her face saying more than any words could about how in love with the snarky vampire she was. "You sound like someone who also has a happy distraction in their life."
"I do," Billie replied, her smile dimpling her cheeks. Discovering Laura's system, she helped arrange the paperwork into more manageable piles. "It's not something I set out to do, y'know? Meet someone. I just wanted to help people. All my life that's all I've ever wanted to do."
"That's how it seems to happen. When you least expect it." Laura chuckled, rolling her eyes. "I didn't even like Carm when we met. Well, none of us liked her, really. And now? We're inseparable. Well, not literally. Cos you know... I'm here right now and she's not. But metaphorically inseparable."
Billie snorted. "It's really hard to imagine that you disliked her when I see you together now," she admitted. Sometimes opposites had a funny way of attracting though.
"She was so messy. And arrogant. And frustrating." Laura grumbled, before, hilariously, having that frown turn into a dreamy grin mid-sentence. "And hot. And... and... leather pants... and..."
"I haven't lost you, have I?" Billie asked with an amused smirk, snapping her fingers in front of Laura's face playfully. "How long have you been together now? If you don't mind me asking."
"If it helps, I rarely get past the 'leather pants' part." Laura said with a blushy grin, before thinking about that question briefly and laughing. "Holy Hufflepuff... having memories pop up outta nowhere does kinda make that part confusing, huh?" She thought about it, getting all her ducks in a row mentally. "Going on eight years now. Give or take the occasional temporary breakup."
Billie's eyebrows shot up. "That's impressive. Have you two discussed what the future holds, or is being on another planet still a bit jarring?" She asked, even as she continued helping Laura to organize her desk. Multitasking queen, this one.
"We... really haven't to be honest." Laura admitted with a light chuckle. "So many weird things tend to happen in our lives... when we do get the occasional quiet moment, talking and planning aren't really the things we jump at."
"Plus... leather pants," Bille reminded her with a smirk. "I get that, though. Every couple moves at their own pace." She fell silent for a moment, thinking on Mouse's desire for her to move in.
"Oh, you scoff now, but you just wait until you see said leather pants on said vampire. I've seen straight girls go speechless." Laura said with an adorably sage nod, before pursing her lips as a thought hit her. "Is it inappropriate to ask a co-worker to go on a double date sometime? For that matter are double dates even still a thing?"
"Since you suggested it then it must still be a thing," Billie pointed out with a little shoulder-bump. She moved her mouth to one side thoughtfully. She knew Mouse's friends. Maybe it was time for Mouse to meet some of hers. While she might work for Carmilla and Laura, she did consider them friends. "I'm sure Mouse would be for it, once we arrange a babysitter." Her eyebrows shot up as another idea came to mind. "If it goes well, then maybe we could have a dinner party with Hernando and Lito next time," she suggested.
"A dinner party would be so cool!" Laura replied happily, her voice raising to a sweetly excited higher pitch. "And I adore Lito. He is so one of the girls." While she still missed Lafontaine and her other friends dearly, she had Carm, she had Danny, and now she had Billie and Lito as well... things were definitely good.
