Who: Patience and Ash
Where: Ash's Place
When: Backdated to last month
What: Sibling Catch Up
Should Patience have called or texted before dropping by Ash's place? Probably. It was the polite thing to do, after all. Patience wasn't a terribly polite person, though. Even though she knew that she could wind up showing up and seeing her brother boinking his girlfriend or something equally scarring, she figured she would deal. She wanted to see her brother and thinking ahead wasn't her strong suit.
When she arrived at his place in Monstropolis, she knocked on the door, rocking back on her heels as she waited for an answer. God, she really fucking hoped that she wasn't about to catch Ash balls deep in his girl. "Ash! Come let your sister in! It's family time!" she yelled through the door.
Oddly, it took a minute or two for Ash to answer the door. Finally, she could hear the sound of the door unlocking, before it opened, her brother standing there in a white tank top and black sweats. "Shhh. Keep your loud-ass voice down and c'mon in."
"Oh goddamnit, I did interrupt you and your girl, didn't I?" Patience asked, making a face even as she walked inside. "Whatever, I'm already here." Normal people might have asked if maybe she should come at another time, but eh.
"Oh fuck off." He laughed, pulling her in for a long, loving hug. "We finished a while ago. She's asleep right now." He smirked, giving her a little smooch on the forehead before going to the fridge to grab two beers, throwing one to her. "So, sit down, keep it down a bit, and let's catch up."
She grinned, catching the beer and opening it up, taking a sip. "As soon as I got here I realized I might be interrupting, but I had already come so I figured fuck it," she said, flopping down on his sofa. "Felt like dropping in and seeing how you were doing. How's things going now that she's back?" She knew things had gotten a little rocky before his girl disappeared for a bit.
"Honestly? It feels like her vanishing was a gift to our relationship." Ash admitted, eyebrows raised slightly. "Not even gonna sugarcoat it: we were completely batshit for each other, but there were a lot of unspoken emotional obstacles in our way. But when she left... somehow, she came back a few years older. More mature and understanding of things between us. This is big, sis. You know I don't say shit like this if I don't mean it 100%... I haven't been this completely, obsessively in love with someone since Neely."
She arched an eyebrow back at him. "This is big then, isn't it?" He'd had a girlfriend before this one, but apparently this connection was a good deal stronger. "So you gonna propose to her at some point then?" If this as even close to being like it was with Neely, then he had to be at least thinking about it.
"I want everything with her. Marriage, kids, the whole nine yards." It was no secret that Ash's biggest wish in life was to be a father. He'd wanted that desperately for years now. "Not gonna rush though. I don't want to freak her out. But yeah. I think Pen's really The One, sis. I don't think I've ever been so sure of anything in my life."
She nodded. "Well, as long as you don't scare her off by rushing, I'm sure it'll end up working out that way for you." Yeah, Ash had been wanting to be a father for forever. Like, actually have his girl give birth and everything, not just end up with a future kid. She wanted it to happen for him, too. If anyone was going to be a good dad, it was Ash. He knew what not to fuck up on, at least. She smiled and raised her beer. "A toast to you and what I'm sure will be your future gaggle of children!"
"And Patience. I shit you not: she got even hotter. Fucking HELL. She got this gothy thing going now, and she's got tats..." Oh god. The look on his face said it all: even talking about her was getting him riled up. "Apparently Gwen texted her, kind of a 'getting to know you' thing. I get it, Gwen's always been like another sister."
"So she matured physically, too? You lucky fucker," she said, laughing. "And did she now? How did that go down?" Damn, she should probably do that, too, huh?
"You have no idea." He chuckled, grabbing his phone to show her a picture of how Penelope looked now. "I can't even describe how gorgeous she is. So... just see for yourself."
"Damn. You don't need to describe. I've got eyes," Patience said, letting out a whistle as she looked at the photo. "She's a stunner. I know that's not why you're nuts for her, but I bet it doesn't hurt."
He thought about making a crude remark. But no... that was Patience and Gwen's thing. "I'll be polite and just say her looks are a big part of why we've barely left my bedroom in the last two days. But no, it's not why I'm in love with her. I fell in love with her voice before I even met her. The rest came pretty much the first time we talked."
"I can definitely see that. I wouldn't leave the bedroom if she was in it." She was happy here with Peter, but if Pen was hers....yeah, no leaving the bedroom for days. "I'm happy for you, though. You deserve to be happy, even if we had to go to freaking space for it."
"How's things with 'Star Lord'?" He asked playfully, putting undue emphasis on the code name. "He treating you right?"
"Duh. I'd kick his ass if he wasn't," she pointed out, sipping again at her beer. "We're doing good. Dating the mighty Star Lord is fun as hell." It wasn't any sort of epic thing that Ash and Pen we're having, but she was having a good time being with him. Nothing wrong with that!
"You think you guys'll last for the long haul?" He asked, knowing he and his sister were honest enough to be able talk about things like this.
"It's definitely possible. I'd be happy if it did," she told him. "We don't have the epic love story some people have going on, like you and Pen, but he makes me happy." And honestly, she was fine with an easy going relationship right now.
"Hey. After the shitstorm of a lovelife I've had, I deserve the epic love story." He laughed, giving a faux glare at her. While they'd both had rough lives, Patience had certainly had better luck with relationships overall than he did.
"I'm not knocking it!" Patience protested, laughing. "You rock your epicness. I'm just cool with things being a little more chill." Poor Ash had wretched luck mostly due to outside forces. Patience...tended to occasionally make her own messes. She was trying to be a TINY bit more mature these days, though. Just a little bit.
"I missed this." He said, smiling sincerely. "Seriously. We don't get to talk nearly as much as we used to. And as big of a pain in the ass as you can be... you're still my favorite person."
"Because I'm awesome," she said, smirking before softening. "You're always gonna be my favorite person, too. We should make sure to hang out more often like this."
"You need to get to know Pen." Ash told her, nodding. "So we can start doing stuff with you and Quill from time to time."
"I can arrange that," she told him. If Pen was this important to him, then she was going to be the same to Patience. So, getting to know her was top priority.
"Thanks, sis. I mean it." He smirked then, as something occurred to him. "Meant to ask you... how're you feeling about Abigail showing up here?"
She thought on that for a second. "I'm OK. It was a huge surprise, that's for sure. She's like...a reminder of my old life when I've went on and made myself a new one here. I don't begrudge her for it, though. She's my kid and I love her. It's just weird, thinking of the whole other life I had going on."
