A few hours after arriving at their home in Twin Peaks, Eric and Prue had finally settled the kids down to sleep. Prue gently took Eric's hand and led him over to the sofa to sit down. "This is all..." Prue started to say, still admittedly very overwhelmed. She puffed out a breath and met Eric's eyes. Even Jeremy had said he'd been shot, but looking at him now you wouldn't know it. "Show me," she half-asked, half-demanded. She wanted to see how close she'd come to actually losing him.
Blinking in surprise, Eric actually huffed out a little laugh there, as he knew how she could get when it came to his safety. "Hang on a sec." He said, standing again for a moment. Taking a deep breath, he raised his t-shirt, showing a still-healing bullet wound between his stomach and ribs. "Not gonna sugar coat it: if I hadn't been brought here? I'd probably be dead. They have medical tech here far beyond anything we had at home. Dr. Shepherd told me that if I'd taken even 10-15 more minutes being brought into XMH, I might've bled out."
Prue let out a gasp, then tentatively reached out to brush her fingertips over Eric's skin where the wound was still healing. "Eric," she said softly. While scant time had passed for her since they'd seen each other last, she knew that Eric had been there for a significant time. Time enough for that wound to heal. She pressed her lips together, then let out a heavy sigh. If coming here meant that her husband was still alive? Then she'd take it. "I asked you to make me a promise once. I asked you to make sure that you lived for a very, very long time. You said that you'd take the utmost care of yourself. And that you'd give me every single part of your heart and soul," she reminded him.
She stood and cupped his cheek. "I still believe that. I believe that you did your best and that you helped people who needed you. You have the biggest heart of anyone that I've ever met." She kissed one corner of his mouth, then the other. "And you have every part of my heart and soul as well." She gave him a short, sharp slap to the cheek. "But don't think for a second that I will let you go that easily."
Ok, so... the slap? Surprised the hell out of him. "Babe... I'm sorry... it's not like I was trying to get shot..." He sighed, closing his eyes. "All I could think about, laying there, was you and the kids." He placed a hand lightly on her stomach as he said that, to show he meant ALL the kids. "But it is a risk. I take every possible precaution, and don't jump blindly into anything. But things do happen."
They were no means abusive to each other, so the slap was meant to show Prue's upset. Nothing more than that. "I know," she said softly. She pressed a hand over his, against her stomach. She pressed her forehead against her husband's and gave him a genuine, sweet kiss on the lips. "Speaking of things happening... wanna tell me about that extra bedroom? Seems like someone's living there," she pointed out.
"That would be Sophia." Eric said with a chuckle, playfully nipping her bottom lip before she could pull away. "Poor kid showed up here with no family. I told her she could stay with me, and that I wouldn't put too many rules and restrictions on her as long as she stayed out of trouble and contributed around the house."
She narrowed her eyes at him cutely after that nip. It was difficult for her to stay angry at him for long, especially when he chose to be playful. "And how old is she?" She situated them back on the sofa and took hold of his hand. A part of her just wanted to hold him and never let him go.
"She's sixteen..." He said, giving a slight shrug. "She's a good kid. And I'm just trying to do my part around here. I hate knowing that any kid is at the group home if they don't want to be, you know?"
"Oh, I understand. I just... thought we had at least ten years before we had to tackle the whole 'teenager' thing," she replied with wide eyes. "I'll make sure to talk to her tomorrow. She's family now, and she needs to hear that from me." She paused. "She'll probably also need to be warned about how loud kids can be. Should we invest in noise canceling headphones for her?" She asked with hilariously adorable panic.
Oh, no this was adorable. Eric honestly was just trying to be nice by giving Sophia a place to stay... and here was Prue just automatically welcoming her into the family. She truly never failed to surprise him with her kindness. "We can see if she needs them. If so? I can probably get her a good pair at the music store in Commerceport." He looked at her, true contentment in his eyes. No matter what else happened? He had her. All was well. "I love you, Prue. I'm so happy you're here with me..."
"I love you too, Eric. For better or worse." She wrinkled her nose, then held his gaze. "I'm not gonna lie. I'm gonna be annoyingly clingy over the next few days. Maybe a week. I'm gonna want you by my side or near a phone constantly and I mean constantly."
"Yeah... I'm missing the part where I'm supposed to think this is a bad thing?" He said, cocking his head slightly to the side. "Because the more time I have with you, the better. I've done nothing but panic over not having you here from the moment I woke up in that hospital."
Prue smiled. For as long as they'd been together their love still found new ways to surprise her. "Then we'll find a way to make it work. At least until baby number three comes along." And that was... sooner than she'd like. Given her age she likely wouldn't physically be able to have another child, but as with Sophia, she would always welcome children into her heart and home. No matter where they came from.
"You're perfect, you know that?" He asked, sweetly sincere in his question, as he leaned in slowly to rest his forehead against hers. "I would quit the force today, you know. If it would make you happy, I'd find another job."
"Then you wouldn't be perfectly you, Eric," she told him. She'd likely always fret about his health and safety, but she wouldn't change a thing about him. "Besides. I like how you fill out the uniform," she teased, kissing his nose.
"....are you trying to seduce me, Mrs. Martel?" He asked her, a teasing look of mock indignation on his face. It was kind of adorable how relaxed, content, and happy he was anytime he was near her.
"Maybe a little," she purred in reply, giving him a lopsided smile. "How'm I doing?" There were days when it felt like her heart would burst for all the love that she had for him. This was her soul mate and exactly where she was meant to be.
They really were almost sickeningly sweet together. They shared a deep, dually-understood love that most people could only wish for. "Oh, you're always doing wonderfully." He replied, pulling her closer to wrap his arms around her.
