Typically, Laura Kinney tended to avoid peaceful, quiet places like parks these days. All they did was make it easier for her to dwell on everything she'd lost. She'd had a rough go of life, and had lost pretty much every person she'd ever dared love. Most in a violent way. Losing Katie though... that felt like the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back.
She'd purposely thrown herself into her new job as Emily Fitch's personal bodyguard, mostly to distract herself, and partially because since Emily and Katie were twins, it felt like having part of Katie still around.
But today, she'd decided to allow herself a little time to process everything, and had gone for a long walk through Mar-Vell Park. Looking far from the vicious assassin she was created to be, she looked like any other pretty young woman, wearing a gray skirt, black stockings, and black leather jacket as she tried to let her surroundings in: the sounds of the animals both domestic and imported, the wind blowing through the trees... it was soothing in a way.
Laura Palmer had arrived on Galador high as a kite, but without easy access to drugs she had to go cold turkey. It was difficult. The craving would always be there, but she'd done it. Physically she was healthier than she'd been in years, but mentally? Well, that was another matter entirely.
The leggy blonde had found a park bench to sit on, dressed in an elegant cream dress that had a black belt cinched around the waist, with matching cream pumps. Her hair had a natural wave to it and she had on red lipstick. It was clear by her appearance alone why so many people were drawn to her.
Beside her on the park bench was a clutch purse, which contained a small diary. She'd thought about writing today, but at the moment she was content to people-watch. Maybe she'd find another way to pass to the time.
As she walked, the girl also known as "X-23" grabbed a large tree branch that had been laying on the ground, popping the two razor-sharp claws from her right wrist to begin carving it to a point as she walked past where The Other Laura was sitting, lost in her own little world at the moment.
Laura's eyebrows shot up. JESUS, that's hot she thought, quickly followed by: There's something very wrong inside you, Palmer. Still, her eyes followed X-23 for a good few steps, quietly contemplating what to say. She did not want to let this one walk by. "Cute parlour trick!" She called out. "You must be fun to have at parties."
With that well-practiced Resting Bitch Face, the young mutant stopped in her tracks, turning to look at the blonde. Sexy, she thought to herself, her expression never changing. "I tend to use them more for bloodshed than for... fun."
"We all have our kinks," Laura replied with a playful smirk. She shifted in her seat, purposely flashing more cleavage (one of her older tricks). "What's your name, cutie?"
She was half-tempted to just say 'X-23'. Made her feel less human that way. But that also opened her up to a ton more questions. "Laura." She said, trying to keep all emotion out of her voice, but not quite succeeding in eliminating the sadness.
Jesus, this girl sure sounded like how Laura felt. "No kidding?" She chuckled huskily. "Would you believe that that's my name too? Laura." The blonde offered a hand to shake, biting back the next comment that came to mind. She'd likely say it in a few minutes anyway, but she wanted to give the brunette a chance to warm to her first.
The brunette raised one eyebrow, before slowly retracting those claws back into her arm, waiting a moment for the wounds to close before taking the other girl's hand. "New arrival, I'm guessing." She said with a smirk. Someone this outgoing? She'd have seen her around by now.
"New enough," Palmer replied with an easy smile. She held Kinney's hand for a few seconds longer than was strictly necessary, grazing her thumb over her skin briefly before letting the brunette retrieve her hand. "I take that to mean that you've been here for a while?" She asked, quirking an eyebrow.
"I'm from this reality, but... yes. I've been on Galador for quite a few years now." This girl was definitely flirting with her. She could smell the pheromones wafting from her. "You... didn't seem surprised or frightened." She added, referring of course to the sight of the claws when she'd first walked past.
"I like to think that I've acclimated better than most," Palmer replied nonchalantly. A part of her also still thought that she was dreaming, so that was another hurdle she'd have to get over eventually. As for the flirting... well, she always knew when to turn on the charm when she wanted someone. She'd made a game of it to see how quickly she could have sex with them. Which... was alarming, but she wasn't about to change now. "Hey, can I ask you something?" She rolled her eyes. "I mean, obviously I can, since that was a question, but I'm dying to know."
Oh, this should be interesting. Kinney couldn't help but be intrigued by what this girl could possibly want to know. ".....ask." She said, feeling her muscles tense.
Palmer noticed the tension immediately. She liked to think that she was good at reading people. She suspected that Laura was on guard because she worried that she'd ask about her powers, but it was something more vulgar than that. "Have you ever cried out your own name while fucking someone?"
"I.... wait. What?" Kinney barked out a laugh(!), for once truly caught off-guard. It took a lot to shock her, so this was, in her mind, fairly impressive."No, I can't say that I have." However, one thing Palmer would have noticed? Once she'd laughed... Kinney's voice began to drop the robotic, stoic tone and adopt more of a warm, human one.
There she is, Palmer thought. She couldn't help it but grin. She really just had a way of dazzling people, even if it was a question that came out of left field. "I may be off my game a little... but I haven't either." She put on a mock-serious expression. "Seems like we should fix that, right?"
"....are you seriously coming on to a person you've known for three minutes?" Kinney asked with an obviously charmed chuckle. She kinda wanted to hate this girl on general principle, but couldn't help but find her as endearing as she was (obviously) beautiful. "I'm not sure if I should be appalled or impressed. Maybe both."
"I usually get 'impressed'," the blonde replied, smiling in a hilariously smug way. "Honestly, I just figure... cut through all the bullshit, you know? Either you're into it or you're not." She shrugged and stood up, brushing the wrinkles from her dress. "I'm not gonna spend my life worrying if I've offended someone. And I'm not going to apologize for going after what I want."
"You know, most people see someone with blades coming out of their arms for the first time and get scared." Kinney smirked, clearly taken a bit with this one. "You are definitely a strange one." Note, however, she did not say anything about being not interested.
Palmer picked up on that. Deciding to be bold (although she was rarely ever meek), she reached over and gently took the brunette's hand, tracing her fingertips along the lifelines of her palm. "I didn't hear a 'no' anywhere in there," she pointed out, quirking an eyebrow.
"No... no you didn't." Kinney replied, figuring honesty was the order of the day here. She felt in condition to ever give her heart to anyone again... but her body? Definitely needed the attention. "I should warn you though: I don't know exactly what you're looking for... but I don't play well with others."
Palmer's eyes lit up. She was... a level of fucked up where that turn of phrase turned her on. "Elaborate," she asked. Her fingertips still lazily trailed along Kinney's palm and while she'd been very obvious in checking the other girl out, this time she made sure to hold her gaze.
"I've spent my life killing. Maiming. Hurting. Being tender does not come naturally to me." Kinney pointed out, as bluntly as possible. "There's a very good chance you could get hurt."
Palmer's heartbeat picked up. While she'd slept with an alarming amount of people for someone so young, only a select few knew what really got her going. "I'll take that chance," she murmured. Not giving Kinney a chance to respond, she pulled the other woman toward her and kissed her roughly.
Kinney returned the kiss with an aggressive, hungry intensity. With a dark grin, she pushed Palmer back-first against a nearby tree, and decided to see if her bluster was an act or not. If this didn't scare the shit out of her... nothing would. Lifting one hand, she popped her claws, stabbing them into the tree so that Palmer's face was between them, trapping her against the tree. A half-inch difference would've seen one of those claws go right through her face.
Palmer's eyes lit up. Boy, I sure know how to pick 'em, she thought. Still, she wasn't alarmed as she should be. In fact, that display only served to turn her on more. "Goddamn, that's hot," she muttered, setting her hands on Kinney's hips and pulling her closer so their bodies were pressed together.
