Billie had first contacted Mouse by email in regards to an event that she'd started planning for her new job at Open Arms. Their conversation turned more personal as the emails progressed, to the point where Billie decided to send Mouse a bouquet. The florist helped her pick out an arrangement that basically meant 'you're cute' and 'I like you' without putting it into words. Of course, it would have helped if she'd put her name on the card to say who the bouquet was from! If it wasn't for Mouse publicly asking who'd sent them a comedy of errors would have ensued.
Mouse privately gave Billie her personal number and once settled on the sofa in her small apartment, Billie finally got the confidence to give the other woman a call.
When the phone rang, Mouse (the big dork) quickly (and excitedly) answered it on the first ring. "Billie? Hi!" Think she was maybe a little eager here? Shush. Especially after talking with Neely, Mouse felt more confident and empowered than she had in a long time. She walked over to her bed, plopping down gracelessly. "Thank you so much for the beautiful flowers. You have no idea how much I needed that."
"Oh good! I hoped that you'd like them." With those few words it would become immediately clear to Mouse that she was speaking to an Australian. There was no hiding that accent. "I just," she nibbled her lip thoughtfully, "you're a beautiful soul. Honestly, I'm surprised that you don't get flowers from admirers every day."
Did Mouse almost whimper at that accent? Shhh. "You'd be shocked at just how few people have ever actually done anything like that." She paused, smiling at the memory she was about to mention. "The first time was actually when I first met Victoire. She was a witch, and sent me a magical bouquet and just melted my heart. She pretty much won me over right that moment."
Billie smiled and repositioned on the sofa, resting her head against a cushion on the armrest. "How long were you two together?" She asked gently. She hadn't stalked Mouse on the network, so she didn't know much about Mouse's previous relationships beyond what they'd covered in their email conversation. She assumed that they were no longer together given the other things that Mouse had told her, though.
"Almost two years." Mouse said, feeling herself about to go to The Sad Place before taking a quick moment to right the ship. "I miss her. And I'll always love her. But...I'm also ready to move on." She added, making a point to toss that part in there. Hopping up off the bed, she walked over to the mirror, taking a quick selfie, which she texted to Billie with no warning.
"Oh shoot, sorry I'm getting a message. It's probably my mum checking up--oooooh. No. That's you. That's definitely you," Billie said, looking at the photo that Mouse had sent. She'd put the phone on speaker so she could keep the conversation going while looking at the photo. "Oh wow. Beautiful on the inside and the outside."
"Hee. Thank you." Mouse replied, almost swooning a bit at all the compliments. "I mean... you would know, right? From the picture it showed when you replied to me, you're a knockout." Not that Mouse had already spent time visualizing how she'd look in person. Nope. Uh-uh.
"Ooooh we're totally on the same wavelength there. I had no idea what you looked like, but just emailing you I just thought 'I have to know this woman' you know?" She moved her mouth to one side thoughtfully. "One sec. You've got something incoming." She raised her phone enough to take a photo of herself from the waist up, still lazing on the sofa, dressed in a purple bra and nothing else, with a blush and a grin on her face. "Did you get that? Or did I just send a mostly-nude photo to a complete random?"
Poor Mouse. She had no time to even attempt to censor herself before it just came spilling out of her mouth. "Ohmygod you're perfection..." she said in a sincerely awed hush. Neely was right after all... Mouse was definitely going to need some private time when all was said and done. "I just... I mean... I'm at a loss. You are a goddess."
Billie curled onto her side, grinning as she dug her knuckles into her chin. "Oh, I dunno about that. I know that you are though." Now that the nerves were starting to wear off, she decided to be bold: "Does this mean that I can take you out on a date sometime?"
"I can't think of anything that would make me happier." Mouse replied, Deciding to slip out of her clothes as they talked. Nobody else was home, the baby was asleep... why not get comfy? She tossed her shorts and sweater across the room, slipping on a pair of men's boxers and a red tanktop.
Billie heard some rustling about and gave Mouse a chance to finish what she was doing before speaking again. She tucked her legs up slightly. Mouse's photo certainly had an effect. "What's your idea of a perfect date? Or am I cheating by asking?"
"It's not cheating, per se... but I think I'd like to see what you can plan with no help." Grinning, Mouse felt more light and free than she had since back when Victoire had first expressed interest in her. "No pressure, seriously. It could literally be a simple picnic in the park. I just wanna know that whatever it is came entirely from you."
"Oh, I already have some ideas," Billie purred. "I know that I'm probably giving some of them away, but do you have any food allergies or intolerances that I should be aware of?" She smirked, her cheek dimpling. Her family was big on food and celebrations. That seemed like a good way to start a new relationship, even if it turned into one of purely friendship.
"Nope! Although I do have a well-known weakness to beautiful blonde women..." She teased, finding this girl's upbeat personality very addictive. "But that's not related to food, so you're good."
Billie quirked an eyebrow. She almost joked that Mouse could still make a meal out of her, but... since they were still getting to know each other she politely refrained. "When do you think you'll be free next?"
"Honestly? I kinda hermitted myself away lately. Meaning just give me a day and I'll find someone to watch Remy." Mouse admitted, taking a moment to look at the picture again. Holy shit.
"Of course," Billie replied, rolling to her stomach as she looked at Mouse's picture as well. "Let me know when you know. I'll make it work," she promised.
"Any day this week will work..." Mouse grinned, looking at her text messages. "I just texted my bestie and she said she'd watch him any night. So... ball's in your court!"
"Ahhh!" Billie giggled, kicking her legs up as an idea began to form in her mind. "Okay, so... Would I be too eager in asking to see you tomorrow? About five o'clock?"
"You have no idea how wonderful that sounds." Mouse replied, an adorably dreamy little lilt to her voice. Hearing someone this eager to see her? Felt amazing.
Billie grinned, her cheeks dimpling. "I can't wait. Oh!" Her eyes light up as something came to mind. "Definitely put on some dancing shoes."
Oh man. It was gonna be Cold Shower Night for Mouse, folks. This girl had her all kinds of flailing right now. "I have a feeling this is going to be a very fun evening." The redhead told her, unable to even attempt hiding the happy giggle in her voice.
