Performance: Spencer Quill
"So I think that I made my point," Spencer chortled as her video package began. "I know that what I'm doing here isn't what is currently popular. As an artist, you're not supposed to what you think that the people en mass will want to hear. That will only depress you." She tilted her head, looking toward the camera and raising an eyebrow, "so why not perform what makes you happy? If you're just trying to make money by selling a million records, then get off the damn stage. There's no room for you here."
Spencer walked out onto the stage after her package ended with a smug grin on her face. She was wearing jeans and an 80s style Strawberry Shortcake t-shirt on with a pink bandana holding her hair back. She sat on a stool in the middle of a trio of string instruments, ready to play along with her with a piano and drummer behind them.
"It starts with One thing I don't know why It doesn't even matter how hard you try Keep that in mind I designed this rhyme To explain in due time
All I know" she held up a hand, index finger extended, waggling it up and down. "Time is a valuable thing Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings Watch it count down to the end of the day The clock ticks life away
It's so unreal" she took a quick breath as she held her arms out. "Didn't look out below Watch the time go right out the window Trying to hold on, but didn't even know Or wasted it all just to watch you go
I kept everything inside And even though I tried, it all fell apart It fell apart, even though I tried What it meant to me will eventually be A memory of a time when" she brought one of her feet up to the support bar and began tapping it eagerly.
"I tried so hard and got so far But in the end it doesn't even matter I had to fall to lose it all But in the end it doesn't even matter" she smiled, swaying back and forth.
It starts with One thing, I don't know why It doesn't even matter how hard you try Keep that in mind I designed this rhyme To remind myself howwhen
I tried so hard" she halfway stood up, still leaning against the stool. "In spite of the way you were mocking me Acting like I was part of your property Remembering all the times you fought with me I'm surprised
It got so far Things aren't the way they were before You wouldn't even recognize me anymore Not that you knew me back then But it all comes back to me in the end" she closed her eyes, preparing herself to put everything she had into the climax of the song.
"YouI kept everything inside And even though I tried, it all fell apart It fell apart, even though I tried What it meant to me will eventually be A memory of a time when" She stood up, looking out to the audience with a huge smile on her face. She felt good about this song, and she didn't care what anyone else thought.
"I tried so hard and got so far But in the end it doesn't even matter I had to fall to lose it all But in the end it doesn't even matter
I've put my trust in you I Pushed as far as I can go And for all this There's only one thing you should know
I've put my trust in you I Pushed as far as I can go And for all this There's only one thing you should know
I tried so hard and got so far But in the end it doesn't even matter I had to fall to lose it all But in the end it doesn't even matter
I tried so hard and got so far But in the end it doesn't even matter I had to fall to lose it all But in the end it doesn't even matter" she continued to vocalize as the instruments played out the rest of the song. Once it was over and the lights went down, and only the judges would be able to see her, she thrust her fist into the air. She considered flipping them off, but she felt like the song sent that message well enough.
