Performance: Olive Penderghast (1 of 2)
"When I started the journey to Universal Idol, things were different," Olive's voice started out a small video package. "I was trying to recruit band members but didn't get many offers. Victor Mancha was the only one followed through, and I'm still mostly sure that it was just because he had a crush on me. Because when we actually began working together, we didn't share a vision at all. He kept throwing out the names of rock bands and songs, basically wanting me to just do copycat covers of them," she sighed, shaking her head, now being shown that she was doing an interview. "I mean... Nothing against Queen Barb, I adore that girl, but that is only a small part of what I can do. I want to stand out in my own way, and I'm going to continue doing that, no matter where that takes me." She shrugged, looking at the camera, "as for tonight?" She grinned, "hi SoBo!"
Olive walked out onto the stage after the package was over in fishnet stockings, faded blue, extra short denim cut-off shorts, a tiny white tank-top, with a leather jacket to finish the ensemble. Much like her performance two weeks prior, a familiar melody begins to play, only with a rougher, hard rock edge to it. She made sure to not catch her knee-high boots on the microphone stand as she grabbed it and pushed it aside, banging her head to the signature three-beat punctuation of the song.
"Knew he was a killer first time that I saw him Wonder how many girls he had loved and left haunted," she cradled the microphone in her hands for the first two lines before extending her fingers and tilting her head. "But if he's a ghost, then I can be a phantom Holdin' him for ransom" she swayed her hips from left to right, looking away for a moment. "Some, some boys are tryin' too hard He don't try at all, though Younger than my exes but he act like such a man, so I see nothing better, I keep him forever Like a vendetta-ta" she swiped her hand across her face with her fingers in a V-shape across her eyes (think Pulp Fiction).
"I-I-I see how this is gon' go," with each 'I', she punched the air, then ran her fingers through her hair before sliding the microphone out of its holder. "Touch me and you'll never be alone I-Island breeze and lights down low No one has to know" she kneeled down on one knee before switching to the other knee, looking down.
"In the middle of the night, in my dreams You should see the things we do, baby, mmm" she kept one hand on the pole of the microphone stand, sliding it up slowly as she made her way back up to her feet. "In the middle of the night, in my dreams I know I'm gonna be with you So I take my time Are you ready for it?" the lights went down completely for one beat as she held out the mic stand. She stood in silence for a beat before walking away from the stand.
