PERFORMANCE - ALEX MANES GUERIN
It seemed like he was doing better than he thought he would. Week three and he was still here. Walking on the stage a little bit more nervous than the weeks before. It wasn't a cover song he was singing this week. He was doing his best not to show it. Something he was a bit of a master at by this point.
Before the music started there was a brief silence. There was a moment where he simply stood there. He closed his eyes and took a deep breathe.
I was born in a thunderstorm I grew up overnight I played alone I played on my own But I survived
Hey I wanted everything I never had Like the love that comes with light I wore envy and I hated that But I survived
His hands hovered over the metal of the microphone stand.
I had a one-way ticket to a place where all the demons go Where the wind don't change And nothing in the ground can ever grow No hope, just lies And you're taught to cry in your pillow But I survived
I'm still breathing, I'm still breathing I'm still breathing, I'm still breathing
He grabbed onto the microphone stand and tilted it close to him. Closing his eyes as his emotions poured from his voice.
I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive
He realeased his grip of the metal stand.
I found solace in the strangest place Way in the back of my mind I saw my life in a stranger's face And it was mine
I had a one-way ticket to a place where all the demons go Where the wind don't change And nothing in the ground can ever grow No hope, just lies And you're taught to cry in your pillow But I survived
I'm still breathing, I'm still breathing I'm still breathing, I'm still breathing
This time he took his mic off of the stand. Leaning into the audience as he sang.
I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive
Taking a few steps away from the edge of the stage, never turning his back to the crowd.
You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing
I had made every single mistake That you could ever possibly make I took and I took and I took what you gave But you never noticed that I was in pain I knew what I wanted, I went out and got it Did all the things that you said that I wouldn't I told you that I would never be forgotten And all in spite of you
And I'm still breathing, I'm still breathing I'm still breathing, I'm still breathing I'm alive (you took it all, but I'm still breathing) (You took it all, but I'm still breathing) I'm alive (you took it all, but I'm still breathing) (You took it all, but I'm still breathing) I'm alive (you took it all, but I'm still breathing) (You took it all, but I'm still breathing) I'm alive
He leaned forward as he grasped onto his chest. Almost pained look on his face as he sang.
I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive
Taking a few deep breaths after the music faded off and he was there facing the judges.
