Performance: Maya Matlin
Maya wanted to make even more of an impression this time around. She wanted to choose a song that emphasized her voice more and made her stand out, but also choose a song that spoke to her. Feeling lonely lately, missing Zig, tonight the song she chose was the first song that came to mind. It seemed their timing was always off so why not sing about it and use that feeling.
She stepped onto that stage confidently, more confident than last week, head held high, walking out there to see her fans cheering her on and that made it easier for her to do what she wanted to do; sing like her life depended on it.
She took the microphone in her hands and opened her mouth and belted out.
When your legs don't work like they used to before And I can't sweep you off of your feet Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love? Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks?
Would he remember her when and if they were together again? Or would he be a different version of himself like happened a lot here on Galador? She couldn’t be sure and that translated into her tone and movements as heartfelt.
And, darling, I will be loving you 'til we're 70 And, baby, my heart could still fall as hard at 23 And I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways Maybe just the touch of a hand Well, me—I fall in love with you every single day And I just wanna tell you I am
The emotions were heard in her tone as she sang out, both to the crowd but also clearly obvious to someone specific, who happened not to be there. She would tell him this al to his face if she could. It had always been him. She wished she had told him sooner.
So, honey, now Take me into your loving arms Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars Place your head on my beating heart I'm thinking out loud Maybe we found love right where we are
She hugged herself as she sang out, staring off into the crowd. The lights showed her cheeks flushed, but wouldn’t be obvious because of the stage makeup she wore. It was clear she wanted his arms around her for real.
When my hair's all but gone and my memory fades And the crowds don't remember my name When my hands don't play the strings the same way (mmm...) I know you will still love me the same
'Cause, honey, your soul could never grow old, it's evergreen And, baby, your smile's forever in my mind and memory I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways Maybe it's all part of a plan Well, I'll just keep on making the same mistakes Hoping that you'll understand
Even when her music career was all said and done she knew who would always be by her side, even miles away. It had always been the two of them.
That, baby, now Take me into your loving arms Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars Place your head on my beating heart Thinking out loud Maybe we found love right where we are (oh, oh)
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, lo-ud
So, baby, now Take me into your loving arms Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars Oh, darling, place your head on my beating heart I'm thinking out loud But maybe we found love right where we are Oh, baby, we found love right where we are And we found love right where we are
At the end she put her arms out, reaching as if for someone, and let it all out. She panted, not out of breath but from the pure, raw emotion of the song. She even let a tear slip down her face from the feeling of it all.
Finally, she thanked the judges, audience, host and after getting her comments from the judges she went to the back room.
On her way to the back this is what she said, “Zig, I wish you could be watching but since you are not here, I love you, always have. It’s always been you. Even if I go home tonight, well, at least I got my true feelings out even if not directly to you.”
