He caught the eyebrow she raised when he said that an explanation wouldn't make anyone necessarily feel better. "Would it make you feel better?" he asked. "Even if we couldn't undo what happened?"
He stared at the beer for a moment. "That tomorrow is an improvement over today, and the next day is better than that," he offered. He couldn't exactly suggest toasting to their health (or maybe he just didn't feel like it was a worthy toast), but what he said was something that they could actually hope for.
He nodded. If he were in her shoes, then he could see himself being devastated. He might be as bad off as Rocket was right now, locked in his lab and not talking to anyone. He had kids to think about, and he hoped he would function for their sake, but he couldn't predict things, either. "If you need time, then you'll have time. It's good that your nature keeps you from letting things be down for long. I'm sure a lot of us wish we could be like that."
