Ah-may-zing
Who: Ellie and Kat
Where: Kat's New Workshop
When: Not long before this post
What: Kat being adorably frustrated
Rating: PG
Status: Closed; Complete
"Flarkin' piece of crap... gonna throw you at the krutackin' wall in about a minute..."
Grumbling to herself, Kat was in her (new) workshop, in her favorite coveralls, half of her little body inside the front engine of what appeared to be a half-assembled X-Wing fighter. As usual, she had music playing as she worked, as right now she was cursing over the sound of SLANDER's "Kneel Before Me".
"What the fuck did the engine do to you, babe?" Ellie asked with an amused lilt, having helped herself inside the workshop. She was visiting so frequently now that she should be considered a fixture on one of the walls. She was dressed in jeans and a sleeveless top that had 'fuck sleeves' printed across the chest (not that she'd let Juliet ever see her wear that).
"Ellie!" Kat yelped happily on hearing her girlfriend's voice... before rushing to get out of the engine and clanging her head on it "Goddammit!" She exclaimed, rubbing her head as she slid down the nose of the starfighter, covered in grease smudges, her hair in a (now messy) ponytail. "When'd you get here?" She asked, that huge smile still coming out every time she looked at the other girl.
"About five minutes ago," Ellie admitted, an amused smile on her face. She liked watching Kat work. And swear. And helloooooo grease stains. "I like watching you work," she admitted, making her way over to the other girl and gently kissing where a goose egg was already starting to appear. "All better?"
Kat actually swooned a little at that kiss. There was just something about the way Ellie was so quick to take care of her that was so attractive... "This thing is a bitch, Ellie." She said, pointing an accusatory finger at the X-Wing. "An absolute, total, 100% bitch."
Ellie laughed. "And how exactly is it a bitch?" She couldn't help it but wonder. Her girlfriend swearing at inanimate objects was kind of adorable, though. Really.
"I have never seen a krutackin' engine block like the one in these things. It's like the same tech doesn't really exist here. So I'm having to cobble together a brand new system for this thing from scratch. From scratch, El!" Kat flailed, eyes wide with frustration.
"'Gentleman, we can rebuild him. We have the technology'," was Ellie's immediate reply. Well, one good thing to come out of working at Sin and Quinn's Super Mega Pop Culture Emporium was that Ellie picked up a lot of pop culture references. She snorted. "Seriously, though? You can do it. I know you can."
"I might need to call in some friends for this one. I'm doing this as a favor, so I can't exactly take forever here..." Kat grumbled, blind to how completely adorable she looked when frustrated.
Kat really was adorable when she was frustrated. Ellie's face scrunched up in a 'oh she's so cute' kind of way. "Who would you call to help?" She asked curiously. She wasn't mechanically minded herself, sadly. She'd driven a car a few times, but in her world transportation was... well, on foot or by horse, if you could get one.
"Cynthia Von Doom, definitely. Even though I know she'll lord it over me for years that I needed her help." Kat sighed, shaking her head. "Maybe Tony and my dad, if they're willing."
"Of course they'd be willing." Kat tended to surround herself with beautifully minded helpful people. "Fuck, I'd help you myself if I had any idea about this stuff." She was willing to learn about new things, but this just might be outside of her wheelhouse.
"You do help me. When I'm working on these things, I mean." Kat explained. "I keep a picture of you in my phone. And anytime I get aggravated or overwhelmed, I look at you for a minute, and all the bad feelings go away."
"Well yeah, but then you'd just be super horny," Ellie teased, poking her tongue out. While she got where Kat was going with that, Ellie? Was clearly in a joking mood today. She reached for Kat's hand. "Really?"
"Well, when that happens, I just make sure I'm sitting on one of the engines that vibrates a lot." Kat said in a complete deadpan, before squeezing the girl's hand. "Yeah. I've been doing that since before we were even together. Looking at you just gives me inner peace."
"Which is funny since I'm such a firecracker." Still. The 'aw' expression meant that Kat hit her right in the feelz. Ellie tugged her in for a chaste kiss. "So maybe I'll be your mascot while you work on this, then."
"You totally should!" Kat replied, way too excited about that idea. "Anytime I get frustrated and want to set this d'ast thing on fire, I can just come over and steal a kiss."
"Or multiple kisses," Ellie agreed with a lopsided grin. She then gave Kat's project a good looking over. "Okay, so... probably a weird question, but: Would it be totally cool if I sat in the cockpit? Promise not to touch anything."
"Sure!" Kat nodded, crawling her little self up onto the nose of the ship to manually pop the cockpit. "Not gonna be very comfy... the seat in it isn't even covered or anything yet..."
"You know? I don't think I'm gonna mind so much," Ellie replied with a cute wrinkle of her nose. Once Kat had the cockpit open she carefully hopped inside, mindful not to hit her head. "You seriously built this thing all by yourself?"
"Yep!" Kat beamed, before rolling her eyes. "Ok, maybe not ALL by myself... Uncle Groot helped with all the heavy lifting. But the schematics, the wiring, the welding, all of it? ALL ME."
"Really cool," Ellie replied, trying to imagine how the ship would fly. "Tell you a secret? For the longest time. And I mean the longest time, I wanted to be an astronaut." She probably still did want to be one, in point of fact. "To go out there," she glanced upward, "see what I can see. To boldly go..." She looked away with a chuckle. "It's stupid, right?"
Kat felt her eyes go wide. She wanted to make all of this girl's dreams come true... and this? This was one she actually could make happen. "El? What would you say if I offered to have Daddy take us up with him in The Milano sometime? So you can see the stars?"
Ellie's whole face lit up like a Christmas tree, betraying the fact that yes, indeed, she did still dream about being an astronaut. The big goof. "Really? Like, really really?"
"Like really, really." Kat replied, just melting inside seeing Ellie look so happy. "Ask him nicely enough and he might even help you learn to fly yourself." She looked at the girl sitting in the unfinished cockpit, and knew (not that she ever thought otherwise), beyond a shadow of a doubt, that despite how young they both were, this was the girl she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.
"Ahhhh! That would be ah-may-zing." Ellie flailed. "God, I could kiss you right now. Gasp! I can!" She said, moving over to her girlfriend to do just that, planting a long happy kiss on her lips.
Kat kissed her for close to a minute, moaning happily before finally breaking away, a mischeivous look "........ever gotten felt up in a spaceship before?"
A huge grin spread across Ellie's face. "No... But there's a first time for everything." She really was just full of excited energy right now. Not just at the prospect of going into space, but also because it was an interest they could share together. "C'mere." She tugged Kat in for another kiss, humming happily against her lips.
