He was very close to giving a laugh and telling her how that was a boner killer for sure. But her face... the way she looked telling him that. He didn't. He wanted to just hold her and tell her he wasn't going anywhere.
Alex had come to face his own mortality a long time ago. He'd made an uneasy peace with it. He'd been locked up had missiles aimed at him and shot at more times than he could count.
"I'm dead aren't I." He shifted so he could put his arms around her. It was more a protective and reassuring gesture than anything else. "You were the only one who kept looking for me I'll bet. Stubborn as hell. Don't want to give up." He looked like he wanted to cry but he didn't. "I'm sorry. Was it at least something heroic? And possibly stupid at the same time?" Because he wanted to try and laugh or he would cry. "I'm not going anywhere. This is our chance. You can keep me in line." He pressed a gentle kiss to her cheek. Nothing like before. Just the promise to be there for her.
