He felt bad for bringing that up then. But it was good she'd been there, she had somewhere to visit. Something that he didn't have with his parents. But he was glad she had travelled. Seen more of the world for better reasons than he'd seen some. "I'm sorry, I never got to meet your mom." He would have liked to.
But when she mentioned Hank... Alex couldn't help it, his shoulders shook as he tried not to laugh but he couldn't stop. The idea of her asking Hank was too good not to laugh. He stopped trying to hide that he was laughing and finally laughed out loud. A proper laugh in a way that even he didn't feel like he had in a while.
"Oh Bozo..." But it was affectionate that time he slipped back to the old nickname Alex called Hank. None of the anger or spite behind it that it sometimes had. "He was never any good at talking about anything to do with relationships or sex. Talk to him about Raven and I swear he goes purple." Alex was still so amused by this.
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about..." He fiddled with the label on the beer bottle. Starting to peel it off. Now he was actually faced with talking about it he wasn't so brave about it. He pulled the polaroid from his pocket where he'd pushed it and held it out to her. It had that easy going, overly friendly look to the two of them in it. "I don't know if you had pictures..." He faded to a mumble. "I kept that on the fridge. He said he liked it." He shrugged. "I thought this might be easier. To tell you." He wasn't finding it easier.
