About Freaking Time
Who: Tony and Carol
When: Same Night as the Masked Singer Finale
Where: Backstage
After his exit interview backstage, Tony headed for his dressing room. He wasn't that surprised that he'd been guessed fairly early in. He had a distinctive voice and in giving any real clue he was easy to figure out. It had been funny when Matthew had taken off his mask and briefly confused the hell out of the audience, actually. There had to be some sort of prank he could convince the man to do with him, though. How could you pass up having a face twin like that? He knew it weirded some people out, but of course Tony took it in stride. Maybe it was just because he was used to seeing his face all the time, at least in the press. He wondered if he could convince Matthew to grow a beard...
As soon as he walked into the dressing room and saw Carol, all other thoughts flew from his mind. "So, what did you think?" he asked her, smiling.
"You!" Carol laughed happily, running over to him. "That was fantastic. You had SO much fun, and it showed. I love seeing you so happy, and just enjoying yourself." She wrapped her arms around him, nuzzling him sweetly. "And that charm.... good lord, Tony: I never had a chance, did I?"
He laughed as well, bugging her back. "No, I suppose you didn't. How long did it take you to guess, or did you know right away?" He was going to make fun of Chelle for the rest of his days because she didn't guess him right away. Shouldn't his friends know his voice?
"First time I heard your voice I knew." Carol replied, before laughing. "But there was still that big part of me going, 'he wouldn't.... would he?' so, I guess there was some doubt. Definitely by the second performance though."
"Come on, a place where I can show off in front of a crowd? Of course I would," he teased. "I think people are just more amazed that I didn't rip the mask off first performance to show that it was really me."
"Exactly. I would've thought the siren's song of 'pay attention to me' would've made hiding your identity downright unbearable." Carol told him in a deadpan, 'I-know-you' tone.
He shrugged. "Eh, to be fair, I didn't really try that hard, either." His clues were pretty clear about who he was. Of course, even a halfway right clue was going to give him away, so he just ran with it. "I had fun, though. Apparently no one realized this fabulous voice could also carry a tune," he said playfully.
"So, now the big question." Carol laughed, the look on her face saying it all: she found his arrogance both maddening and utterly charming. "What does The Great and Powerful Tony Stark do now? You can't keep the adoring public waiting, you know..."
He paused, actually thinking on that for a moment. "Honestly, the only think this great and powerful wizard wants to do is actually tie the knot with his beautiful fiance." Everyone expected them to do a huge wedding, but you know what? Fuck it. "So what do you think? Want to find someone to officiate and do it tonight?"
"While the idea of seeing Rocket in a little tux being utterly miserable is a tempting, tempting thing.... yeah. Let's do it." Carol replied with a laugh, squeezing his hand before pulling him in for a big, happy hug.
"Hmm...almost worth waiting....but we can always just call him and tell him we're getting married now. That way, he can at least be there for it." Hey, they got to know each other because of both of them spending time in Rocket's workshop. He needed to be there! Tony wrapped her up in a hug as well, happy to just finally be doing this.
"Yeah, I guess give the little jerk a call then." Carol chuckled. She actually loved Rocket like family... but GOD did he know how to press every damn one of her buttons when he wanted to. "Wow...tonight's the night the famous Tony Stark settles down..." She added, winking.
"To be fair, I don't think of it as 'settling down.' That makes it sound bad," Tony explained. "It's a little more like 'finding my place in the world.' So...still kind of cheesy to say, but more fitting." His life with Carol, despite the ups and downs that came on Galador sometimes, felt perfect.
"In your defense there, I like to think of myself as enough of a catch that marrying me isn't exactly 'being tied down' either..." She teased, hip-checking him sweetly. "So how are we gonna do this, hon?"
"It's not. You're a hell of a catch, Carol," Tony told her. "And what we are going to do is call a few people who we want to witness it, call the veritable herd of children we seem to have collected, and find someone who can marry us. I'm ready for this."
"Hell, at this point we may as well go the whole nine yards of ridiculous and have Wade marry us." Carol said with teasing smirk, shrugging as she reached for his hand, squeezing it gently.
"I'd ask if he could, but who am I kidding? He's probably a priest and everything," Tony joked with a snort, squeezing her hand back. He was so excited! They were finally doing this!
"He claims he got ordained on the internet." Carol said in a slight deadpan. "The sad part is... the way he said it? I believe him." She laughed, shaking her head. "So who are you calling? I'm gonna get Hill and Jess"
"Not even that surprised" Tony admitted. It sounded like something Wade would do just for kicks. "I'll call Rocket and the kids. I'd invite Chelle, too, but I'm sure she's busy tonight doing wrap up with the show."
"....she is going to punch you in the face, you know." Carol laughed, taking her phone out to send a quick text to Jessica and Maria. "This is easily the most spontaneous thing I've ever done..."
"Hmm... maybe, but I think she'll get it, too." She would certainly understand him doing this kind of on a whim, too. "And it is, but doesn't it feel awesome?"
"It feels impulsive... it feels ridiculous... it feels like something my parents would scream at me for." She laughed again, shaking her head. "In other words... it feels like the perfect thing to be doing with you."
"You know that it's fun to be impulsive sometimes," Tony insisted, smiling at her. "So let's figure out where we're meeting people and elope like teenagers," he said, offering her his hand.
"I'm keeping my last name, you know." She told him with a wink, as if this icon of Girl Power would ever do otherwise.
"Yeah yeah, so you already told me," Tony pointed out with a laugh. "Trust me, I wouldn't expect anything else." And he wasn't old fashioned enough to care, either.
