Common Room Shenanigans
Who: Darcy and Mac
Where: Common Room of Devron
When: Thursday Afternoon
What: Two girls trying to out reference each other
Yeah, Darcy had to admit that she kind of liked the idea of being stuck on a space ship. Yeah, watching the continuing soap opera that was Jane and Thor was highly entertaining, but even that didn't really compare to flying around in space and getting to see different planets. After all, Jane was the one that got to go to Asgard, not her. Nope, she'd been left on Earth, dealing with Ian and having to wrangle Erik and try in vain to convince him to wear pants.
She totally wasn't bitter about that, though. Deny it to her dying day, even.
Now she was sure she was getting the better end of the deal, though. She was currently sprawled out in the common area of the building that her apartment resided in, mostly just intending on making a nuisance of herself to anyone that she came across that she might recognize. The idea of running into people she once thought were fiction? Hell YES she was all in on that.
Mac had been on Knowhere for all of six hours and was just getting to her assigned building now. Cosmo had given her the induction and her leaflet, and, after the initial shock wore off, she decided to take a look around. The place was well beyond anything that she couldn't possibly imagine (and she could imagine a lot), but she thought that she was adjusting remarkably well considering.
Walking into the common area of the Devron building she hitched her carry case over one shoulder, looking and feeling like the newbie she was. Seeing Darcy, she gave her a weak smile. "I imagine this is what Harry Potter felt like when he stumbled onto platform nine and three quarters..."
Darcy looked up at Mac and smiled. Yeah, this place was mind boggling, and she could see that this girl's mind was freshly boggled. "I know, right? This place is a lot freakier than Hogwart's, though. At least the school of magic didn't also fly in space."
"Although wouldn't it be cool if it did?" Mac replied with a wry smirk. She could see Wallace really loving this place, actually. It just kinda sucked that he didn't 'make the trip' with her. She walked on over to Darcy to better introduce herself. "I'm Mac."
"It would be awesome, until something inevitably rose up and tried to kill us, like he who shall not be named did like, every year in the books," Darcy said. She reached over and offered the woman her hand. "I'm Darcy. It's nice to meet you."
"Actually, he was conspicuously absent in the third book. Although I always thought it was weird that he tried to kill Harry at the end of the school year. Almost oddly considerate." Way to talk nerdy, huh? "But yeah," she reached over to give Darcy's hand a shake, "it's really nice to meet you too."
"Really? Damn, I need to go back and read those." Which, since so many people were considered fictional, she'd probably be able to find the books here. "Glad to meet someone else who speaks nerd. I mention Harry Potter to most people, and they stare at me like I'm the loon."
"Hopefully they'll have the books here. Ohhh... maybe they'll be different. Like Harry and Hermione end up together instead." Hey, Mac had a lot of time to read lately, okay? "So, I have to ask. How long have you been here?"
"That's true. Maybe Dumbledore or Snape didn't end up dying, either." Now Darcy had to find the Harry Potter books, actually. "I've been here for a little while. We all got a zombie infestation right when everyone started arriving. Trust me, it was totally as much fun as it sounds."
Mac laughed. "You know, I'm not really sure that I could survive a zombie apocalypse. Unless I hold up in a bunker somewhere," she joked with a lopsided smirk.
"Well, that's basically what I did, hole up in the rooms that were provided here," Darcy admitted with a laugh. "I'm not a fighter or anything, so I definitely decided to hang back and let the heroes do the hard work."
"You know, I probably would have paid to watch that," Mac replied with an amused laugh. She suspected that Veronica could hold her own, actually. At least now that she'd trained with a gun. Mac decided to take a seat. "This place is kind of spectacular, isn't it?"
"Oh yeah, it's crazy. Not only do I have the possibly chance of meeting Harry Potter, there's at least one person here that I was definitely told was dead." That had Darcy's undying curiosity, too, but she was trying to keep that to herself.
"You're kidding? Okay, I'm still trying to wrap my head around 'people are fictional characters', throw in dead people there as well and that's just a whole other animal." Still, what a time to be alive!
Darcy laughed. "I know, freaky as hell, huh?" she asked. "Apparently, we're in the kind of place where literally anything is possible. Sign of the times."
"Ain't it so," Mac chuckled. "So... what exactly do people do around here? I'm... not exactly the type to laze around on my ass and do nothing." She was already itching to find out what kind of computer systems they had in this universe, hilariously enough.
"You know, I haven't exactly figured that out yet," Darcy admitted with a laugh. "As far as I can tell, you laze about, which has me a little weirded out, too. I'm used to either being in school or working as head underling for a scientist."
"Head underling... is that your official title?" Mac teased with a cheeky little grin. She made herself a little more comfortable in her seat, crossing one leg over the other. "Well, you could always ask around, see if someone science-y needs an assistant," she suggested.
"Well, technically, I'm an intern, but I went and got one of my own, so head underling fits me well now," Darcy said, grinning. "I probably could ask around. Someone probably needs some help. What about you? What did you do back home?"
"It couldn't hurt any," Mac agreed. She couldn't *wait* to find her place here, personally. It would make it feel more like home. "Officially I'm a secretary," although she and Veronica tried not to use that word, "unofficially?... Hacker extrodinare fits."
"Second part sounds more fun." Darcy had actually hacked into SHIELD's records herself to find things out about Thor. "What kind of stuff did you hack into."
Mac rolled her eyes thoughtfully as she tried to think of the best way to put it. "Let's just say if I ever got caught? I wouldn't see natural light for the rest of my life. Naturally I'm too good to be caught." In that, she was very confident.
Darcy let out a giggle. "Yeah, you and me both. Back at home, I got into SHIELD's datebase. They're like...CIA and Men in Black rolled into one? I was looking for info about a friend. Still, not sure if I want that to get out too much back at home."
"Yeah, I'd definitely keep that under my hat if I were you. You don't look like you could hold up to any kind of torture." Mac didn't think that she could, either. She was happy to stick to the sidelines and watch others do the heavy lifting.
"Only torture I'm willing to even remotely put up with is at home, where one of my boss's runs around without pants because he's utterly nutso," Darcy said. "Wasn't fun to see him naked running around Stonehenge on the news either, to be honest."
Mac tried to keep a straight face and barely held it for two seconds before she cracked up laughing. "Okay, that has t be the funniest thing I've heard all day."
"Welcome to my life: it's unintentionally hilarious," Darcy said with a smirk.
