It was a little later that Alex finally got the thing outside and they set it up, well Alex set it up and Sean brought more clay discs and watched Alex while making helpful comments. Until Alex stopped and looked down.
“You’re in charge of… Are you even listening to me?” Sean lay in the grass looking up at the clouds.
Alex peered down at him. Taking in every detail. From the way his foot fell while the other was tucked up and the hand on his chest, still clinging to the single clay disc. A smile crept across Alex’s face. He was tempted to poke him with the toe of his shoe but Sean looked so damn peaceful like that, he just couldn’t do it.
“Join me?”
How could Alex say no? Alex stretched out on the grass next to the redhead and soon enough found Sean’s hand holding his. It took a couple of times of hearing Sean saying his name for Alex to come back to earth.
“Are you even listening to me?” No, would be Alex’s answer, he wasn’t even watching the clouds really, just glances when Sean pointed, he was watching Sean and he knew Sean had been speaking because he’d been watching his lips move, he just didn’t know what he’d been talking about. He could apologise later, Sean was one of the few people that could get an apology from Alex without it being a chore. It was even offered before anything. “I was saying we should sneak out onto the roof later.”
“Oh, yeah. Of course. We don’t need another reason for another lecture and he hates us smoking in the house.” Alex got to his feet, then held a hand out to Sean. One hand clutched the disc to his chest and the other reached out to Alex.
They held hands a moment before Alex tugged and helped Sean to his feet. He didn’t seem in a hurry to let go of Sean’s hand.
“One go before we go in and start dinner?”
“Think they’re gonna join us today?”
“Don’t know.”
“Don’t care?”
“I like it just being us.”
“Yeah but we’re family.”
At some point the trap is set and Sean still has one left in his hands but he’s in charge of being the one to launch the targets for Alex.
Alex shakes himself off as he stands there. Waiting. Ready. Glancing over at Sean who seems to have been distracted by the clouds again.
“Oi!” Alex calls and Sean turns to look at him, that full smile on his face that makes Alex forget what he’s doing.
But the target is fired and he snaps out of his reverie, firing with one hand, something he’s been dying to try, where he expects the target to be. It shatters above them. They both cheer. This is definitely one of their better finds and a new game for them. They cover it all up before heading inside. They could tell whoever turned up for dinner with them about it. If they turned up...
