Who: Tia and Nessie
What: Talking
Where: FT Park
When: March 19th
Warning: None
Nessie was excited to see Tia again. It had been way too long since she had seen her. She was still sad that Tia had not come to her birthday. That had been the hardest thing was her old friends not staying long or not coming to her birthday. It made her realize more and more that being a pre-teen was a big difference from being a teenager already. She had not even gotten to tell anyone about John yet. But that would have to wait since it seemed like today Tia had something important to discuss. So for today she got permission to go out to the park in Freedomtown to meet Tia. When she arrived at the park she looked around for Tia as she walked more into the park looking for her friend in the spot they were supposed to meet in.
---
Tia did feel bad about not going to Nessie's party but given what she found out about the girl just a few days before hand, she couldn't bring herself to go. Like when she found out people ate rabbits, she needed time to process what may or may not be true about her friend so she hadn't spoken to her until now. Knowing it wouldn't be right not to invite her to her party, she decided now would be a good time for them to talk. She arrived at the park with Winky in tow and found a nice tree to sit under, the black cat laying beside her to keep her company as she waited. Her long hair blew in her slight wind and she absentmindedly pet her as she kept an eye out for her. When she spotted her, she raised a hand and waved her over.
---
Finally Nessie saw Tia and Winky at the same time that Tia saw her. She smelled her actually, using her more than human sense of smell, one of the few powers she had in her half human body. She waved back when Tia waved and headed over. She smiled her usual friendly smile and sat nearby on the grass, but not too close as she sensed something was off. "Hi Tia. How have you been? Is everything alright?" She asked, usual concern in her face for her friend.
---
Winky flicked her trail when Nessie approached but stayed close to Tia, flopped over on the ground next to her. Tia continued to pet her for comfort and strength as she brought up what she wanted to talk about. "Well. No, not exactly. I've been told some things about you and your family and I wanted to talk to you about them personally because it's been a lot to process and want to know if what I've been told is true"
---
"Hi Winky." She greeted the cat next, and her soft spoken self hopefully would ease the cat who was acting funny. Or she thought he was anyway. She nodded, and sighed, figuring this would come up at some point. She had been born here and by now she had grown to assume most people knew of her or at least of her mom anyway, or dad. But apparently Tia had not heard anything until recently. "Well, depending on what you have heard, I am a half vampire and half human. My mom was human when she got pregnant with me." She explained the simple part first. She knew Tia would have tons more questions. She was prepared. Especially since in theory Nessie had only been born two years ago and yet she looked like a pre-teen more so than a baby. She wondered how much Tia had found out.
---
Winky paid no mind to Nessie at the moment, wanting to comfort his owner during this conversation instead. Tia looked down at her and the two seemed to have a conversation with Winky meowing in response then she looked back up to Nessie as she began to talk. "That was part of it" She replied with a nod of her head. "Are you really only two years old?" She wondered, asking her first of many questions.
---
Nessie looked Tia in the eye's. She knew if she did not then Tia would think she was lying, and she wouldn't lie or even omit anything with Tia anymore. She nodded. "Yes, I was born in 2018. I only recently officially turned 2. But somehow I age different than most humans. There isn't many like me, either, so we are still figuring it out." She told her friend. "But Tia, I do not drink from humans." She glanced down at Winky and suddenly gulped. "I don't drink from animals either." She added quietly, though some of my family do." She added, not wanting to lie.
---
Tia nodded her head when Nessie answered her question. She'd been there long enough to know that things were not exactly normal so a girl only being two but looking like a middle schooler made sense to her. She opened her mouth to ask more questions when Nessie seemed to read her mind and answer them before she could ask. "You don't?" She asked. "Then what do you -- " She got cut off as Nessie continued and then she went pale at what she heard, her legs drawing up to her knees. "Oh. So what she said is true" She whispered, her chin going to her knees as she looked to the ground. Her going quiet was a good sign that she was upset about what she'd heard and she was, very much so.
---
Nessie had not been around here very long because of how old she legally was, but she knew enough about how things worked here and she knew Tia long enough to hope she understood or would. She also knew her friend would be upset hearing about the animals part.
She nodded, gulped, embarrassed. “I drink a synthetic blood known as True Blood.” She answered next, but when she saw Tia’s face when she mentioned her family drinking animals.
“Yes. But not all my family drinks from animals.” She said quietly. “And I don’t at all. I can also eat regular food too.” She added.
“Im sorry. I know how this sounds to you. But I hope with in time you’ll accept me since we are friends. And maybe you can learn more and even if you never understand at least tolerate my family for me.” She said, looking at Tia hopefully.
---
She only nodded her head to show she understood how Nessie got her blood. Well that was good that she wasn't drinking from humans so no one was getting harmed. She hadn't looked up at her friend just as, as she was taking it all in and choosing her words carefully. The more she thought about all of it, the more upset she got about it. "Why do they drink from animals? That's not what animals are for! They don't deserve that!" She insisted, tears welling up in her eyes as she looked up at her. "I can accept you because you don't do that but I don't think I can accept your family that does that" She told her with a shake of her head. "Animals are my friends and they're hurting my friends!"
---
Nessie looked down. Her family didn’t embarrass her but it also wasn’t her story to tell. And so she found herself using her fathers and grandfathers words. (From the books; canon) “Tia. My uncle jasper is mostly who drinks from animals. And well he had a tough start to life. I want to try to explain his story but I wouldn’t want to make things worse with my basically covering for him.” She tried to explain.
She nodded. “I understand though. I really do.” She was grateful it was not her mom they were discussing but she felt bad it was anyone at all in her family.
Then she went on, “I know it isn’t the same but essentially everyone who is not a full on vegetarian is guilty of the same thing. Sort of. I know in your eyes they are wrong as much as my uncle is wrong, and hopefully someday you’ll be able to meet him and see him for him. And I am grateful for you not walking away from me completely. I don’t know what I would do without you Tia. But I do hope someday you’ll be able to see that in some ways he is similar to a typical carnivore. I am not sure how else to explain it. This is how he survives though.” She said quietly.
This is why she didn’t want to explain about Uncle Jasper but she had to try at least. He was her family and Tia was her friend and she had to try.
---
Tia was respectful and listened to Nessie as she talked and when she finished, she grabbed Winkie and began to stand up. "Thank you for answering all of my questions" She told her, emotion wavering in her voice a she spoke while tears rolled down her as. All she could think about as she poor little animals getting drunken by animals and she couldn't hear about it anymore. "I'll see you at my birthday party, okay? I would still like you to come" She gave her a soft smile when she said that when she turned and began walking off.
---
“I’m sorry Tia.” She said genuinely and she meant it. But she also wasn’t apologizing for her family because she couldn’t. If they didn’t eat they died so in her eyes and knowing how some of them were this was what it took to have them around.
“I will be there Tia. For you. I really do love you like a sister. I hope we can work out how this can work for our friendship.” She said genuinely. She had never cried before but she felt sad, she felt like if she could cry her eyes would be wet right now.
