Who: Young!John Connor (somedaywarrior) and Nessie Cullen
What: Movie "date"
When: Backdated 2/17/20
Where: Movie Theater (chaperoned by Cameron Phillips)
Nessie was still kind of upset that so many of her old friends drifted away from her when she got sent backwards by the gem and became 11 again. She was still finding herself again. It wasn’t easy but she was looking forward to her birthday party the 29th. A bunch of the girls that hadn’t ditched her were coming over for a sleepover that night.
Today she had made plans with John to see sonic in 4dx. She was excited about the moving seats during the movie. She got dropped off at the theater excited about the movie. Sonic looked so cute. She had some money in her pocket for snacks and popcorn.
She stood outside the theater after buying her ticket, waiting for John to arrive so they could go in together and get snacks and then find some seats.
When she finally saw him walking up she waved at him, “John, over here.” She called out to him.
John was excited to finally get some time with some other kids his age. He never got to do this growing up. It was always he had to know this and that from his mother. And no where was safe.
In fact he rarely went anywhere with out a Terminator guardian. He looked around and saw Cameron (a reprogrammed Terminator from the future sent to protect him. She looks like a teenager) already seated a few rows behind them. He sighed. This was obviously his mother’s idea. He decided to ignore her for now.
John was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt. His dark hair hung loosely over his forehead. He heard his name being called and saw Nessie already seated. He nodded and took a seat next to her. “Hey, Nessie. What’s up? I have never been to see a movie before.” He finally admitted.
Nessie was often kept a secret also for the first year of her life because of people wondering why she grew so rapidly. It wasn’t as bad as back home on earth the stories she heard but still Nessie had always been home schooled. She was still hoping this year she would be allowed to attend the Salvatore school for 7th grade and be with other kids.
Nessie didn’t see anyone from her family so they either blended in better or they were giving her some trust since it was a public place.
“Hey John. I grabbed some seats and figured we could take turns getting snacks so we can save these seats.” She told him. “Do you want to go first?” She asked him. She has grabbed seats directly in the center of the theater. The best seats in her opinion.
John knew that Cameron would protect them both. As he considered the answer to Nessie’s question he saw Cameron nodding behind them to give her permission. John rolled his eyes and waved cash at Nessie. “Hey, I got this. I’m going to get us both snacks.” He left and returned several minutes later with popcorn and drinks for both of them. “Here you go.” He sat back down and handed Nessie her snacks.
Nessie smiled and glanced back where John looked. Hmm. Did he have a bodyguard? Why? Was he someone famous? "Thank you," was all she said, not wanting to embarrass him and ask if he had a bodyguard.
She sat and looked around the theater while waiting for him to get back. When he did and handed her popcorn a drink, she thanked him again. "I have milk duds in my bag, too. I brought extra in case you like those, too." She did not eat a lot of human snacks, nor food, but she was addicted to milk duds, especially at the movies.
John gave her a smirk. “No problem. I actually love milk duds. I haven’t had them in a long time. I didn’t get a lot of stuff like that from my foster parents.” He explained. “My mom was in the mental hospital for a while, so I had to live with foster parents.” He explained.
“They are the best.” She said again holding out the box to him if he wanted a few. Nessie frowned. “Im sorry. At least you’re with your parents now, albeit different versions of them but it’s still them.” She said kindly. “I’m so sorry. How is your mom now? Well actually is she a version before she went to the hospital?” She asked hoping not to confuse him but he has already said his moms younger then he remembered so he must understand a little. She offered a kind smile at him in condolences.
“Uh...yeah. So my family is confusing to tell about. A lot of us have time traveled and stuff. My Dad and my uncle Derek are from the future. My mom is from my timeline but she’s really old now. And my Dad is really young. And my mom is also dating this guy who is a cyborg.” He frowned. “My mom was already in the mental hospital for blowing up a computer factory when I was little, but I rescued her with a robot from the future.”
“That is awfully confusing. On the one hand it’s nice to have them all here but it’s also like you don’t even know some of them cause of the age thing.” She frowned too. “So your mom is not even with your dad here? I’m sorry John. That really does have to be rough.” She said empathetic. “Did you rescue your mom in all of your time lines or just the one that brought you here?” She asked curiously while waiting for the movie or the previews to begin.
John shrugged. “Hell yes it’s confusing. But that’s my life. No, my mom is with my Dad and that cyborg. So she’s with two guys I guess. I rescued my mom in my timeline, but I don’t know about all of the rest. There is an older version of me here. I mean he’s really old like thirty or something. I should ask him about that.”
Nessie shook her head. “So strange. I mean that in a nice way though. I mean at least you know you’ll be born still in this world since your parents are together.” She offered some good thoughts on this whole confusing thing. Her eyes widened. “I have an older version of me here but she’s technically only 17, but that’s the oldest we’ll ever look so it’s not nearly as confusing as having someone here that’s you in your 30s.” She said sweetly.
“Well I was already born in my timeline. So if my mom gets pregnant again, then I might have a little brother or sister. I don’t know how I feel about that. I have been an only child for my whole life.” He nodded as she mentioned her older self too. “Yeah I haven’t met my older self. But I know he’s a soldier from the future. He is also married and they are going to have a baby. So technically I guess that makes me a Dad.” He laughed. “That’s really crazy right? There are also two versions of my Dad here. One is with my mom but he’s a lot younger than she is. It’s kind of embarrassing for me. And the other version I haven’t met yet. He is younger from what I know.” He explained.
"I do not quite understand how that works." Nessie admitted to her naivety. "But it would be pretty cool to have a sibling. I am an only child also." She told him then went on. "I wouldn't mind a sibling close in age to me." She added. She laughed. "That is kind of amusing, that you are technically a dad before you even met your future wife." She shrugged because that sounded so weird to say it like that. "I think I need to see like a family tree or a chart of all your family to get it and then I still couldn't promise I would get it." She admitted.
“That’s why is awesome to have friends here. Yeah it’s weird that I’m going to be a Dad. But the kid will have two Dads. Pretty cool, huh? My family isn’t that hard to understand. There is my mom, then my Dad and my uncle Derek. My Dad and my uncle Derek came from the future. Mom is with my older Dad and a cyborg named Marcus. There is a younger version of my Dad that lives with uncle Derek. There are two of my moms. One lives with uncle Derek. Then there are two of me. One is really old and married. Then I live with my older mom, and a robot from the future named Cameron.” He nodded to the teen-aged girl sitting behind them. “That’s Cameron by the way. She’s watching us.” He admitted.
Nessie laughed. “You’re a dad and a kid yourself. I mean technically you’re a dad anyway.” She said blushing. “I’m sorry, that wasn’t nice to laugh.” She said genuinely. “I think it’s really cool to have two dads and so much family in general though.” She agreed with him. She glanced back at Cameron. “He seems nice. Or at least looks nice. I'm glad for you that you have so many people around that love you and protect you.” She said genuinely.
“It’s a lot to keep track of. But I’m handling it. My Dad is a grandpa and not nearly old enough to be a grandpa. That has to be weird for him too.” He sighed. Cameron nodded to Nessie but didn’t speak. He was silent until the movie was over. “That was really cool. I don’t get to see movies very much. Thanks for inviting me.
Nessie shook her head. “It is a lot. I’m sorry you have to deal with all of this while just getting here.”
The movie started and she glanced at him but focused on eating her popcorn and candy and watching the movie.
“That was such a cute movie. Sonic is adorable.” Nessie agreed as they walked out. “Thank you for coming. I don’t go to the movies a lot either.” She said smiling.
“Yeah no problem. It was a cool movie. I’m glad my mom let us go to see if. It’s nice to have friends that aren’t adults.” John admitted.
"I am glad my mom let us go, too." She said smiling. "So listen, I am having a birthday party on the 29th. My birthday is actually the 3rd. Maybe if you wanted to stop by for cake you could. It is really a sleepover but well, you could still come and have cake with us all and hang out a bit before you had to leave for the night."
John smiled at her. “I think that sounds like fun. I’m not going to be the only guy there am I?”
"I don't know yet. Not everyone has RSVP'ed yet." She admitted.
“Oh, okay. I can ask my mom and see if it’s okay. It might be kinda awkward if I was around all girls right? But at the same time maybe I shouldn’t complain.” He laughed.
"I think there will be other boys there but I can't guarantee that yet. I am sorry. And I understand if you do not want to be the only boy." She assured him .
“Are you kidding? There will be more room to flirt and work the room.” John gave Nessie a wink.
Nessie laughed and blushed. But then again, he probably did not mean flirt with her. "Well, yes, I mean there will be plenty of opportunity for you at my party if you want to flirt, even maybe find a girlfriend." She teased him, her gut clenching though. She would be happy if her friends dated John, he seemed nice but it would suck for her because boys just did not like her.
“Of course I never had a girlfriend before. Not that I really had time. Mom was always training me to be this great military leader and shit.” He explained. “But now I can live a normal life.”
"I have never had a boyfriend before." She admitted to him. But then again she had only been alive only two years so that made sense. "I think it is great that you get this chance because you came here. That is the reason I asked my mom to go to a regular school instead of home school in the fall. I just want to be a normal girl." She said. "Do you go to school?" She asked. Maybe they would be in the same school in the fall after all.
“I’m not sure about school next Fall. Mom and Cameron are homeschooling me right now. See, in my mom’s timeline I was killed by a robot. That’s why she’s so hesitant to let me go places by myself.” He explained.
“It’s not as great as it seems being home schooled. You miss out on all the stuff to do with other kids. But I see her point. I think my moms afraid for me too because of what happens in her other world. But we’re mostly safe here. Hopefully our parents realize that eventually.”
“Believe me, I know. I was homeschooling pretty up until now. I think that my mom is considering regular school for me. Especially since the younger version of my father is already in school. I know that I’m not totally safe here . One of those Terminators could come through and try to kill me again. I have to be prepared for anything. That’s why Cameron came with us today.” He explained.
“I’m trying to convince my mom and dad for regular school in the fall for 7th grade so I get it. I hope they let me go and make some more friends like me.” She told him. “Will you be in the same school as your father then?” She asked curiously. She nodded, concern flooding her face again.
John laughed. “No my father is seventeen. He is in high school. I haven’t met either version of him yet. Seventh grade? Are you really that old?” He asked curiously.
“So by the time he graduates you’ll be in high school.” Nessie laughed. “I’ll be twelve in a few weeks. I might be able to test into high school at the school I want but my parents might not let me so we’ll see. How old are you anyway?” She asked. Nessie was technically two but looked about 12-14 depending on the day.
“I’m eleven right now. I will be twelve at the end of the month. I don’t know what we’re going to do for my birthday yet. But I want you to come if we have a party.” He added. “I have been through so much in the past five years that sometimes I feel older than that.”
"So you are only technically a few weeks older than me. My age is complicated though. I also sometimes feel older than I truly am." She admitted, her first hint to what she was. She smiled.
"I would like that. I would like to meet your whole family like you will meet mine at my birthday." Nessie replied. "If you get me the birthday info like date and stuff I will ask my mom and dad and make sure I can go." She promised.
John gave a knowing smile. "I had a feeling that you were not completely human. I don't know how I could tell. Maybe its just because I have been around terminators so much, Cameron is aware that you aren't human either. She knows what you are, only because of her scanning capabilities." He explained.
"I think I can do that. My mom is still protective of me going places by myself. I will have to tell you about that story some time." He nodded.
Nessie nodded but did not give away who she was. She might tell him someday but not the first time they hung out. She glanced back at Cameron, though. "Oh. Um, well, I won't hurt you, you know." She assured him.
"Next time we hang out we can fill each other in maybe." She agreed.
