Seeing the Sights of Galador
Who: Penny and Grace (featuring Dawn and Eric)
Where: Death & Taxes
When: After these network posts, Saturday 9th
What: Showing Grace where Penny's been spending her time
After messaging Grace on the network Penny headed home, showered and got herself ready for the evening, dressing in that promised red dress that she knew that Grace loved so much (the same dress that she arrived to Galador on, in point of fact). She waited for her honey to get ready as well, then escorted her to Death & Taxes in Monstropolis. "I've only been here a few times," she started to say as they made their way inside. She knew exactly where she needed to go to get to the downstairs area, but decided to wait by the hostess station so she could introduce Grace to the hostess and let her get a feel of the place. "It doesn't hold a candle to Eden," the club that Grace had owned and operated back home, "but it's as close as we've got right now." She playfully nipped at Grace's shoulder, her not-so-subtle hint that Grace should open her own club in town. But, one thing at a time!
"Trust me, love, I'm looking into it," Grace answered back as they walked in together. It was kind of sad to her that the whole of Galador only had once vampire establishment. She hadn't actually been to 'Death & Taxes' just yet, but she did need to research the competition before opening back her own club like she had at home. If nothing else, she wanted to check and see if there was a need she could fill. "I miss our home away from home."
Dawn smiled brightly at the two women when they walked inside. Very pretty women, actually. She could immediately tell that they were vampires. Having worked here since it opened now, she'd gotten pretty good at spotting them. "Hello, Ladies. Welcome to Death & Taxes. What can I do for you today?"
Penny had a lot of fond memories of Eden back home. Of the time that they'd spent together there. They'd likely forge new memories here on Galador. All Penny knew was that as long as they were together, she'd be happy. A life without Grace in it... well, it wasn't as rich or fulfilling. She knew that much, being alone on the planet without her love for so long.
Penny beamed as soon as she saw Dawn. "While I'm sure you know where we're going I wanted to take a minute to introduce you two. Grace, this is Dawn. Dawn, Grace." She gave Grace's arm a light squeeze, as if to say 'I like this one'.
Grace was certainly all about making new memories here on Galador. She had Penny here, and that was what really mattered to her. Now she just needed something to occupy her time, like Penny had with her shop now.
Dawn reached out and shook Grace's hand when she offered it. "It's nice to finally meet you. Penny's definitely been talking you up before you arrived." Penny had that 'happy love glow' about her (even though vampires didn't really get flushed or anything, so it was metaphorical!), so she could easily see that they meant a lot to one another.
"Likewise," Grace replied, getting Penny's message about Dawn. She certainly seemed like a sweet young woman.
Penny had always been a people person. There wasn't a person in this world on any other than she didn't get on well with. Penny really was beaming. She only ever smiled so much when she was with her love. "I thought that I'd give Grace the grand tour," Penny explained with a wink. She liked that Death & Taxes was there. It felt like a home away from home until Grace found her way to her and they could build that home together. She was halfway there, at least, having been on Galador for so long. "Introduce her to a few people." Dawn was obviously included in that. She was a sweet young woman and Penny held her in high regard.
"Well, I'm glad that you brought her here. Everyone should come to Death & Taxes at least once," Dawn said. Of course she was going to talk up the place that she worked and that her boyfriend owned, but who could expect otherwise? Besides, she wouldn't work there if it wasn't a great place!
Grace craved opening Eden here, but that didn't mean that she didn't want to see all the other places worth going to. So far, Death & Taxes was quite interesting. She hoped to meet some of the rest of the employees as well, if they were all as nice as Dawn. "Why don't you show me your favorite table, for starters," she suggested to Penny with a grin.
Penny blew Dawn a kiss and gave her a wave as she did just that, leading Grace over to the bookcase that would lead to the speakeasy section downstairs. Eric had the habit of changing the book, but since it was always a vampire novel it was an easy system to figure out. She smirked and tugged on Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. "Oh, I'm sure she'd love that," she murmured as the bookcase moved, giving them access to the downstairs area. "Perhaps a bit theatrical, but I like it."
Grace chuckled when she realized what book Penny had to pull to gain entrance. "I always wondered if that one was inspired by anyone the author met," she remarked as they walked through the door into the speakeasy. "There is a real Dracula, after all."
Penny's eyebrows shot up as she led Grace downstairs. "Is it true that he can turn into a bat?" She asked, amused. She only knew what she'd seen on TV and as to whether or not there was any truth to it she wasn't sure. She gave Grace's arm a light squeeze as they wend their way through the occupied tables over to the bar. It was busy, but not to the point where they had to shout at each other to be heard.
"I only met him once at a party in the 1920's. I didn't get to see him turn into a bat, but he did do the thing where he turned himself into fog," Grace explained. "I assume he knows a little witchcraft or something akin to it. That or he's just spiking everyone's drinks all the time," she added with a laugh.
Penny laughed as well. "I can't believe that you met vampire royalty." There were fortunately a few unoccupied seats at the bar and Penny happily gestured to one while she took the other. "Speaking of." She gestured to Eric who was behind the bar polishing a glass.
Eric quirked an eyebrow at her. "I'd hardly say I'm royalty." He did like the sound of it and smiled as his eyes went from Penny to Grace. "Good evening," he rumbled. He could lay it on thick when the mood took him.
"He would certainly love to hear you say that." Grace remembered Dracula as someone who loved attention. There was a reason Bram had written such a long novel about him, after all. He wouldn't have gotten all of that information without Dracula being there to tell it all to him.
Grace looked up at Eric and smiled. He certainly looked like he could be royalty, and that was without knowing his true heritage. "Hello," she said pleasantly. "I'm Grace."
"Eric," the blonde Viking replied, inclining his head briefly in greeting. "I can see why Penny was pouting while you weren't here. You are just... fun to look at." He gave her a fangy grin and flashed a wink Penny's way, obviously teasing.
"... I may have come here more than I let on," Penny admitted. If she was capable of blushing she certainly would have! She leaned over to give Grace's thigh a squeeze. "It never lacks in interesting people."
"I'm at least glad you were somewhere that people were keeping an eye on you," she teased. Grace then chuckled, reaching over and threading her hand into Penny's. "Well, I'm very happy to be here now. I never expected to get to experience life on a different planet."
Knowing what they'd have to drink, Eric set about to getting it ready for them. Over the years he'd mellowed out quite considerably. He was less about chaos these days. "It's like something out of a sci-fi novel, isn't it?" Penny agreed, giving Grace's hand a squeeze. "But there's a few familiar faces from back home so it's not entirely alien."
"I think the familiar faces helped a lot with the transition, along with you, of course." If Grace had shown up here without anyone that she knew, and Penny not being here? She would have been a lot more upset. "At least we're both here together now."
Penny nodded vigorously in agreement. "Oh yes." She loved Grace fiercely and likely wouldn't let her out of her sight for quite a while out of fear of losing her. "There's so much in this world that I want to show you."
