Poe was only seventeen but they were letting him leave the welcome center to go to the hospital. It didn't look like too bad a walk and he had his skateboard. He figured that he would be there in no time. He could see the hospital from the door of the welcome center so it wasn't like he was doing a marathon. It was a few minutes and he was about half way there when he started coughing. He stumbled off of the skateboard and reached for a tree to brace himself. He thought the moment had passed and tossed the skateboard back in front of him to jump on. He didn't even notice his loss of balance until he saw the ground coming at him. He struggled to breath as he laid in the dirt. Aerith, by chance, had been on her way TO the welcome center. She had been desperate to find a way to help around here, and figured if she could get a part-time job at the welcome center, it would at least make her feel useful. Wearing a long beige dress with matching boots, she carried a homemade staff (just in case something attacked her - old habits and all) and looked at utter peace with the world itself, a sweet, calm smile on her face. That quickly turned to a look of concern though, when she saw the boy coming toward her suddenly fall. Rushing to him, she crouched down to the ground, gently placing a hand on his shoulder. "Are you alright?" The dark haired teenager was holding on to his chest as he was on the ground. He was afraid that he would just die there alone, on the way to an alien hospital. Thankfully that fear was short lived when he saw a brunette woman over him. "Ca... bre..," he pushed out. He was sure that he didn't get the words out. He could barely inhale. "Oh no... what's...." She was about to ask him what was wrong, but she knew he'd be unable to answer. She'd contemplated briefly dragging him to the hospital, but she could feel it. The part of her that was the last of the Cetra, that was part of the Lifestream itself, could feel him dying. His lifeforce was seeping from him by the second. Her own connection to the Lifestream had been eroding since she arrived here, as it was becoming harder and harder to have a connection to something that was in another reality. "I have no idea who you are. But I know I can't let someone die. I just hope... whoever you are... that you make the most of what I'm about to give you." This was a major sacrifice for her, and she knew it. She could cleanse him. Give him the 'pulse of life'. Back home, it would completely restore him to health, and she'd goon with her day. But here? She could save him... prevent death from claiming him... but the rest would be up to him. And in doing this, she knew she'd be giving up the last of the connection she had left. She closed her eyes, speaking softly to herself under her breath as a soft glow began to surround them both. The glow brightened around Aerith, before that brightness left her and spread to Poe. After a few moments, the glow dissipated, and Aerith could feel herself losing consciousness. This took everything out of her. She grabbed her communicator, and typed a quick message to Tifa, to come get her. "I hope... you're ok...." She said to Poe with a tired smile, trying to last long enough to know it worked. Poe wasn't sure what was going to happen. He wanted to tell her to call him an ambulance but he couldn't speak. It was pretty impossible to talk when he couldn't breathe. He felt helpless, more so than he had ever felt before. He wished he could talk to Stella again. If he was dying he didn't think the rule of being six feet apart mattered at all. He closed his eyes and tears rolled down the sides of his face. He was completely terrified but was glad that he wasn't alone. It was a stranger but it was better than being alone. Suddenly he felt himself inhale deeper than he had in a very long time. He started to cough as he opened his eyes and looked to the woman that had happened him. "H.. how?" he was so confused, "What did you do?" Aerith smiled at him, happy to have, for the first time in a while, been truly HELPFUL. "I don't know exactly... what was wrong with you... but I cleansed you with the lifestream. Purified your body. Whatever... poisons were killing you... are gone..." Poe didn't feel like the 'poisons' as she called it were completely gone. It felt how it was a few years ago before he started basically living at the hospital most of the time. He wasn't sure what to say or even if there were words to say anything to her. The only thing he could think of was so simple. "Thanks," it came out softly and felt stronger than it was when said for anything else. "My... friend.... Tifa.... coming to.... get me..." She started to say, wanting to also tell him it was her pleasure. But she couldn't, as she slid into a deep, tired slumber, lilting down to the ground. His eyes went wide as he watched her fall to the ground. He stumbled as he got up at first but then quickly moved over to her. He had heard that her friend was coming but he didn't know what to do. He looked around to see if anyone was near by. He decided that he was going to stay with her until her friend, Tifa, came to get her. After that he would go to the hospital and get checked out. |
