That would be a lot for any grown adult, let along a teenager. It's understandable that you're worried. I've got two teens myself. My suggestion would be make it clear that you're there for him when he's ready, and let him come to you about what's bothering him in his own time.
And in the meantime, maybe try talking about smaller, everyday things. What does he like to do in his free time?
