Isabella quirked an eyebrow when she heard that knock. That must be Sookie she thought, since Sin and Matthew weren't the type to knock. I like her already she decided. Matthew had told Isabella that Sookie was a mindreader, but she was the type that tended to say what was on her mind anyway so she saw no cause for concern.
"Nathan, could you please get the door for me? If it's a pretty blonde lady, then that'll be Sookie. You know the rules, though," she added as a warning as her son scampered over to open the door with a flourish.
"Hi! You must be Sookie! I'm Nathan! Wow, you're really pretty!" Apparently Nathan picked up Isabella's honesty. At least he was more adorable about it (since she could be a beast about it sometimes). Isabella joined her son by the door seconds after, placing an instinctive hand on his shoulder. The world that she'd come from could be brutal to children, but she smiled as soon as her eyes met Sookie's. Nathan had been taught never to open the door without her permission and certainly never to invite anyone into their home. Overly cautious, maybe, but he didn't have the strength of his Slayer sisters (one adopted and one through marriage but still his sisters).
She looked for the telltale signs of vampirism (again, overly cautious), but was apparently pleased with what she saw when she said: "Hi Sookie. I'm Isabella. Welcome to our home." She smiled warmly. Something she rarely did prior to meeting her wife. "Please, let me help you with that," she said, gesturing toward the pie to unburden the other woman.
