Merlin had stayed with Duck every night since the man's vision not wanting to miss a moment with the big lug. The wizard's heart broke when he woke up in an empty bed that morning. It never got easy to lose someone you loved. He vowed to watch over Duck's kids, becoming their guardian and providing whatever they needed. The only reason he wasn't a heaping mess was the hope that he would return. He knew people did that, go away and come back with new memories or come back with no memory of being there. The last part scared him.
He was sitting at his desk, staring at some scroll, but not really seeing them. When the door slammed open, his head snapped up to see his love rush in and pulled him to his feet. It took his mind a moment to catch up to what was happening. When it did he melted into the kiss, hugging the man tight to him and never wanted to let him go again.
