She IS Real
Who: Steve and Marlene
Where: The Welcome Center
When: After these posts
What: A reunion
Rating: Mild - Marlene gets handsy
Status: Closed; Complete
Maybe it was because of how Steve had pulled her back from her darkest point. Maybe it was the part of her that would always be an Order of the Phoenix member and try to protect those in need. Maybe it was the fact that she was falling harder and harder for him every day.
Really? It was likely a potent mix of all the above.
Whatever the reason, Marlene had jumped into Protective Mama Bear mode the moment she saw Steve panicking on the network. So, she quickly threw on a pair of jeans, a Quidditch World Cup tee, and a blue baseball cap, and headed out to meet him.
The connection they'd had from the first moment they met eyes was surprising but also wonderful, and she wasn't about to let anything happen to this guy.
While Steve had been gone from Galador for little less than a week, he'd spent a year and a half back home. Which went a ways to explain why he thought that Galador and his life on it had been a fanciful dream -- and Marlene. Marlene had to be too good to be true, right? He had to have dreamed her up.
Except he hadn't. And now he was back.
As he'd said to Marlene on the network his apartment had been packed up, but all of his belongings had been put into storage. So it'd take a little while to hunt those things down, but maybe that wasn't so bad. Maybe he could find an apartment closer to Marlene's or closer to Robin's. He felt guilty for not knowing Robin before, but now that he knew her he wanted to spend more time with her. He likely wouldn't be able to work at a video store with her anymore, but it seemed likely that his job was still open at the docks. Sure, his work was physical labor, but he liked it. He liked being helpful to the community in some way. Steve had thought about going to college but knew that he'd missed sign up--maybe next year. He liked the idea of working with kids somehow, but that thought was still in its infancy.
Anyway. Marlene had said that she'd meet him at the Welcome Center and that he could stay with her until he got sorted, so he waited for her, dressed in dark blue jeans with white sneakers and a white tee with a blue and red vest above that. His hair was longer now (a year and a half was a long time, OK?) and he felt like he was vibrating out of his skin for sheer excitement. And nerves. Would she still look at him the same way? Would she forgive him for leaving like he had? Would he still look at her the same way, even after all this time?
Only one way to find out.
"There you are..." She said breathlessly as she saw him, walking toward him. It hadn't even been a full week, but Marlene had begun to worry that Steve had vanished for good, which terrified her. The moment he entered her line of sight though... she answered his unasked question by running to him, flinging her arms around him. "Bloody hell... I thought I'd lost you...." She sniffled, hugging him tightly.
Steve was quick to wrap his arms around Marlene and hugged her back. He picked her up and spun her around a few times before setting her back down on terra firma, exhaling with relief. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to go."
"Are you ok?" She asked him, palms on each of his cheeks as she looked up at him. "You were really freaked out earlier.... do you need a doctor or anything?"
"I'm fine, I'm fine," he assured her. "I guess it was shock more than anything." He took Marlene's hands in his own and gave them a squeeze as he dropped them down to their waists. "How are you?"
"SO much better now that you're back." She said. She'd held it together, but... she knew deep down that had he not come back? She'd have fallen apart even worse than before. "You're coming home with me, and you are sleeping with me tonight, and I am holding you and not letting you go."
"...You are so bossy," Steve teased, grinning. Still, she'd said sleeping in the same bed, so he tried not to be too much of an ass. "I promise, I won't go anywhere without telling you about it first."
"Good. Because in case you haven't noticed? I'm fairly attached to you by now." She teased, standing on her tiptoes to kiss him again. "Probably moreso than is healthy, but what can you do?"
"I happen to think that attachments are very healthy," Steve replied, grinning from ear-to-ear after that kiss. He'd not had much luck in the love department. In fact, he felt like a pariah back home, as if what he had to offer a woman wasn't enough somehow. He set his hands on Marlene's hips and gazed into her eyes. This. This was where he was meant to be. "Things will be OK now."
"You know..." She said with a mischievous little grin, looking up into his eyes, "I still want you to stay with me tonight... but suddenly? I don't think there's gonna be a whole lot of sleeping involved." Well then! It had taken a lot, but... it seemed like Marlene's sex drive was finally alive and kicking again!
Steve's eyebrows shot up in surprise. Seeing Marlene again made him happier than he'd felt in a long time (apart from his friendship with Robin, of course, who he was always happy to see), but the thought of being with her in that way? "Annnnd suddenly I can't see a reason why we're still here." They'd have to stop at a pharmacy along the way because he sure as hell wasn't packing any protection.
"Mmhmm." She purred, a twinkle in her eye as she casually reached down between them to give him a teasing little squeeze. "You know I haven't done ANYTHING sexual in six months? Not even solo?" She asked, really wanting him to understand how much his love had 'fixed' her. "And now that I'm feeling like myself again... I feel ready to make you beg for bloody mercy."
Steve grunted. Her words coupled with what she'd just done definitely had his attention. She really must have been in a bad way. He couldn't imagine not even taking care of himself in that way for so long. "Something tells me that I'll be doing that often," he rumbled.
"Especially tonight. Six months worth of repressed sexuality?" She asked, giving one more little squeeze for good measure. "Oh, and combined with the fact that I haven't been with a man in almost three years? You are in for it, love."
Steve grinned. He strongly suspected that he'd have trouble keeping up with her at first, but he was most certainly up for it. They had all night to catch up with each other. "You know, that sounds like a challenge," he rumbled, taking her free hand to kiss her knuckles. "And I never back down from a challenge."
"How did I ever get so lucky?" She asked aloud, placing a palm softly to his cheek. "Thank you, Steve. Thank you for healing my heart, and for giving me yours."
"You don't ever have to thank me for loving you, Marlene. If I ever had to start all over again I don't think I'd change a thing, because life led me to you." Steve Harrington, a true romantic at heart, apparently. "I'd really like to show you how much you mean to me."
"Let's go home then, love." She said with a smile, reaching up to ruffle his hair. That's right... she touched The Hair. "I want to spend days doing nothing but laying in your arms."
