Rory looked up with a deer-in-headlights expression, then smiled brilliantly when she realized who had spoken to her. "Oh, I'm only just getting started, but it's good so far!" She flashed the cover of the book so he could see the title (The Fireman, by Joe Hill). By 'so far'? She was already 250 pages in. Rory was a voracious reader. She marked her page, then plopped her book into her purse before standing up to greet him.
She giggled and pressed up on her toes to help comb his hair out. "Thanks for that, by the way." She motioned to the helmet and then blushed. She didn't mean to get so handsy! The impulse felt so natural that she just went with it. It also meant a lot to her that he kept with his promise.
"So. Hi. I'm Rory." She had little experience when it came to dating, but at least she wasn't running away out of embarrassment like she had when Dean first entered her life. Baby steps, right?
