PERFORMANCE - NOAH GUERIN and PENNY ST CLAIRE (2 of 2)
Downstage, and with the help of one of the male backup dancers, Penny has climbed on top of a chair and belts out her next lines to Noah as he and the male dancers move around her.
“I need a man who can keep me satisfied.” She arches her back and throws her head back before hopping back down again.
Noah bops his way back over to her, reaching his free hand out to her as he sang. “I’d better shape up, If I’m gonna prove,”
By his side again, Penny takes his outstretched hand and laces her fingers through his. She pulls him along after her. “You’d better prove that my faith is justified.”
“Are you sure? Yes, I’m sure deep down inside.”
At this point, all six of the backup dancers launch into more choreography that frames Penny and Noah as they sing to each other, and the audience. Their own moves are a more simplified version of what the dancers perform behind them.
“You're the one that I want. (You are the one I want) Ho, ho, ho honey.
You're the one that I want (You are the one I want) Ho, ho, ho honey
You're the one that I want (You are the one I want)
Ho, ho, ho, the one that I need Oh yes indeed!”
As they continue to sing the final rounds of the chorus together, both Penny and Noah dance around the stage, grinning and encouraging others to sing along.
“You're the one that I want (You are the one I want) Ho, ho, ho honey.
You're the one that I want (You are the one I want) Ho, ho, ho honey.”
They circle back around and head toward each other at center stage one final time. When they met in the middle, they lean in close before turning and heading forward, side by side.
“You're the one that I want (You are the one I want) Ho, ho, ho, the one that I need Oh yes indeed...”
The music cuts out for a long beat and the audience cheers. Penny and Noah turn on the final beat to face each other and sing the last line to one another as the music roars back in.
“You're the one that I want!”
The lights blink out and the auditorium crashes back into darkness while the crowd cheers. When the spotlights come back and hit the pair again, Penny and Noah are cracking up and have their arms around each other’s shoulders. Both were breathing heavily and flushed from the dance heavy performance, but it was clear they had had a hell of a time. Penny cheered along with the crowd and gestured to Noah, indicating they should cheer louder for him.
As the applause begins to die down, and the pair turn to face the judges and receive their commentary, Penny sweetly keeps her arm looped through Noah’s in a show of solidarity and unity.
