PERFORMANCE - PENNY ST CLAIRE (2 of 2)
The music then launched into an instrumental riff of jagged rock music, and Penny took that time to sprint back down the aisle before getting back up on the stage. She rocked out for the final few minutes of the interlude before joining back in again.
“They point out the colors in you, I see 'em too. And, boy, I like 'em, I like 'em, I like 'em. We're way too fly to partake in all this hate. We out here vibin', we vibin', we vibin'. Comin' out, even when it's rainin' down. Can't stop now, can't stop, so shut your mouth. Shut your mouth, and if you don't know. Then now you know it, babe. Know it, babe, yeah.”
Some cell phone lights started to flicker out in the audience. Reminiscent of the old days with lighters. Penny gave a shout of encouragement. “Get those hands in the air!” She raised her own arms up and clapped them above her head a few times as the audience joined in.
“Right now, I'm in a state of mind. I wanna be in, like, all the time. Ain't got no tears left to cry.”
She stopped her own clapping and began to strut up and down the stage again, making eye contact with the audience and punctuating her moves with fist pumps and jutted hips.
“So I'm pickin' it up, pickin' it up. I'm lovin', I'm livin', I'm pickin' it up. Oh, I just want you to come with me. We're on another mentality. Ain't got no tears left to cry (so don't cry). So I'm pickin' it up, pickin' it up. I'm lovin', I'm livin', I'm pickin' it up. Comin' out, even when it's rainin' down. Can't stop now. Shut your mouth. Ain't got no tears left to cry. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Oh, I just want you to come with me. We're on another mentality. Ain't got no tears left to cry. So I'm pickin' it up, pickin' it up. I'm lovin', I'm livin', I'm pickin' it up. Pickin' it up, pickin' it up. Lovin', I'm livin', so we turnin' up.”
As the song wound down, the other instrumentals faded away until it was just Penny with the guitar punctuating her words.
“Yeah, we turnin' it up.”
All the lights in the auditorium went down and it was plunged into blackness as Penny struck her final pose.
After a few moments, the lights came back up again, and Penny was once more her bright and bubbly self. “I love you too!” She called back to an enthusiastic fan in the crowd. She laughed and waved to a few more people before she turned, smiling back to the judges.
