PERFORMANCE - PENNY ST CLAIRE (1 of 2)
As the announcer called her name, all the lights in the auditorium dimmed and the audience cheered enthusiastically. Penny strutted out onto the stage with more swagger and attitude then she’d shown on previous nights. Wearing all black was becoming a signature for her. Tonight she sported a black romper. The shorts showed off her legs, while a plunging v-neckline was gave glimpses of the skin beneath crisscrossing laces. She wore a black, floor-length duster to complete the look. It billowed out behind her as she walked up to the microphone.
As she waited for the cheers to die down, Penny put on a show. Completely gone was the bubbly girl who blew kisses to fans and came on stage with props. Tonight she was badass. She smirked out at the audience from under hooded eyes.
Instead of chatting and joking with the audience as she usually did, she grabbed the mic and yelled, “Hit it!” On cue, rock guitar burst forward and Penny launched into her performance.
“Right now, I'm in a state of mind. I wanna be in like all the time. Ain't got no tears left to cry, so I'm pickin' it up, pickin' it up. I'm lovin', I'm livin', I'm pickin' it up. I'm pickin' it up, pickin' it up. I'm lovin', I'm livin', I'm pickin' it up (oh, yeah) I'm pickin' it up (yeah), pickin' it up (yeah) Lovin', I'm livin', so we turnin' up. Yeah, we turnin' it up.”
Gone was the pureness and soul of Penny’s previous performances. Tonight she was all Rock and Roll with a raspy edge to her voice. As the guitar jammed, she pulled the mic out of the stand and began to strut back and forth across the stage. Confidence flowed out of every pore.
“Ain't got no tears in my body. I ran out, but boy, I like it, I like it, I like it. Don't matter how, what, where, who tries it. We're out here vibin', we vibin', we vibin'. Comin' out, even when it's rainin' down Can't stop now, can't stop so shut your mouth. Shut your mouth, and if you don't know. Then now you know it, babe. Know it, babe, yeah.”
Unexpectedly, Penny jumped down from the stage and down to the floor with the audience. She moved through the crowd, singing to and mingling with them.
“Right now, I'm in a state of mind. I wanna be in, like, all the time. Ain't got no tears left to cry.”
At this point she grabbed a male viewer out of his seat and began dancing with him as she sang.
“So I'm pickin' it up, pickin' it up. I'm lovin', I'm livin', I'm pickin' it up. Oh, I just want you to come with me. We're on another mentality, ain't got no tears left to cry. So I'm pickin' it up, pickin' it up. I'm lovin', I'm livin', I'm pickin' it up.”
She kissed him on the cheek before moving away to continue strutting her way down the aisle.
“Pickin' it up, pickin' it up. I'm lovin', I'm livin', I'm pickin' it up. Yeah, we turnin' it up.”
