Love, They Say
Who: Jane and Stephanie
Where: Freedomtown
When: Early June, prior to Jane agreeing to leave with Serenity for a run
What: Impromptu date
Rating: Low
Status: Closed; Complete
Jane had spent her morning in one of the holosuites training for battle (one never knew when enemy would show up on Galador, after all). It had been a while since she'd used her biotic abiliities but she needn't have worried - she was still as strong as she always was. After a few hours she stopped and headed for the showers, stopping for a moment to get her communicator to video call Stephanie. She was obviously still wired and sweaty. Once Steph answered she said: "Feel like going out for lunch?"
Bless her, Stephanie was a little too aw-shucks to ever make real sexual innuendos, but when she saw Jane all sweaty? And asking if she wanted to go out for lunch? The blonde simply grinned, one slender eyebrow slowwwwly rising. "I might need a moment.... I'm having one of those moments where your beauty is just knocking the wind out of me..."
Jane opened her mouth, closed it, then smirked. Steph might not have said it, but Jane felt like she could read her mind sometimes. "You take as long as you need," she teased.
"I think I'm good now." Stephanie said, hilariously looking ready to pounce through the screen to tackle the other woman. Even though she said NOTHING about it. "It's getting to where I miss you literally any second you aren't with me. It's a little annoying at times, but it's also the best feeling in the world to love someone that much."
"Isn't it though?" Jane agreed, a light blush creeping to her cheeks. They'd been together for so long now that there was only one thing left to do to cement the permanence of their relationship. "Do you want to come to me or should I come to you?"
"If you want to have lunch I should probably come to you." Stephanie said, tapping her lips with her index finger. "If you come here, I don't think we're going to get much accomplished."
Now it was Jane's turn to raise an eyebrow. "Well, I'm nothing if not a good multitasker," she purred. Still. They could probably stand to get out for a little while. "Meet me at the holosuites in 20 and we'll go from there?"
"I'll there in 15." She said with a chuckle, as they both knew she was punctual to the point of purposely getting most places early. "I love you, sweetheart. So much."
"I love you too," Jane replied. She told her that she'd see her soon and ended the call. She took the next fifteen minutes to shower and get changed and was in the middle of toweling her hair dry when Steph arrived. "Well, no one's ever calling you a liar."
"It was drilled into my head in the Army: 'early is on-time, on-time is late'. Guess you can take the girl out of the Army, but you can never quite take the Army out of the girl." Stephanie said with a light blush, eyes twinkling with happiness at the sight of the woman she loved. It wasn't lost on her that Jane managed to be the one and only person to make her NOT pine over Wanda, or wonder if she would ever show up... no, Jane had utterly bewitched her, body and soul.
Jane tossed her towel into a nearby basket and reached for Steph's hand with a nod. "It's in your blood." Just as it was in Jane's. She leaned over to nuzzle Steph briefly, lightly kissing her temple. "I was thinking somewhere in Oahu for lunch?" She suggested.
"I do like the idea of taking a long walk on the beach with you afterward..." Stephanie replied with a bright smile. She took a deep breath, before nuzzling the other woman right back. "Thank you, Jane. For loving me. For being mine."
Someone passing might have thought that it was quite a sight to see two warriors, two soldiers show so much love and affection when they'd been trained for war. "You don't need to thank me for loving you." Jane reached for Stephanie's hand. "I do it freely and with all my heart."
"You're a good woman, Jane." Stephanie told her, smiling as she gazed into her eyes. "A good, beautiful, intelligent, kind, and STRONG woman. And I love you with every single bit of my heart and soul."
"I love you too Stephanie," Jane replied softly, giving her hand a squeeze. "There isn't a day that goes by that I'm not grateful to wake up to you sleeping by my side."
"I never saw myself as the type of person that could live a normal life, you know?" Stephanie asked her, even now looking a little sheepish admitting it. "Big house, pets, kids, all that stuff. But somehow... it feels possible when I think of you."
Jane nodded. "I was never in one place long enough to even consider a home for myself." Prior to joining the military she'd been an orphan, and even then she didn't stay in one place for long. She set them off at a walk, remembering they had a date to get to. "But with you? Everything seems possible."
"Would you ever even want that though?" Stephanie asked her, reaching over to absently play with the woman's hair. "Because I'd never, EVER try to make you anything you aren't."
"I think we're part of the way there already, don't you? We have a daughter, although I'm not sure a dinosaur really qualifies as a pet." She laughed. "And maybe we'll get that big house someday. But for me the important thing is to live in a home full of love. And we have that."
"There's a big part of me that wants us to actually adopt Lunella, if we're being honest." Stephanie admitted, having truly taken a shine to young genius. "I really love that girl."
Jane nodded, having no doubt about that. "Maybe that's something that we can talk to her about," she agreed. She fell silent for a moment, thinking of the life that they had and the things that they dreamed of. Their life was pretty close to perfect at the moment.
