Familiar Faces Who: Penny and Mere Where: The Stacked Deck; Gotham When: Let's say mid-to-late June What: Seeing an old friend in a new world Rating: Mild Status: Closed; Complete
Since Charlotte had arrived on Galador Penny did her best to give Amber and her partner space to get reacquainted. For the most part she spent her days at her store (opening day was soon, yay!) and her evenings getting herself acquainted with the bars on the planet. For want of something different she'd moved over to Gotham and found one of its seediest bars (The Staked Deck) and helped herself to a seat by the bar. While she could usually be seen in long slinky dresses that showed off her assets, tonight she'd opted to wear leather pants and a gray camisole. She decided to people-watch for the time being as she nursed her drink, but wouldn't be against company should someone decide to join her, either.
"Well if it isn't my favorite toy shop worker."
Because Mere had a lot of those. Actually, maybe she did. She got laid regularly (she'd never had a problem with getting sex), but that didn't mean she always wanted to put forth the effort of dealing with another person! It was always fun running into someone from home out in the wild, though. Holding her drink, she leaned against the bar, grinning as she looked Penny over.
Penny's face lit up in surprise. "Meredith Delany. As I live and breathe." She tongued one of her canines, amused by her own turn of phrase. She gave Mere a once-over. "Don't you just look edible this evening." How glad she was to see a familiar face!
"I always look edible," Mere retorted, grinning as she sat down. Mere loved meeting new people in this place (lots of gorgeous new faces to meet and greet), but it was great to see someone familiar, too. "How's space treating you?"
"Hmm. A little from column A) a little from column B)," Penny replied. "Column A) being that I get to meet a lot of interesting people. I'm going to open my store. This is a fun and exciting place. Column B) well... I've reconnected with a few people from back home, yourself included, but not the person that I miss the most." She made a so-so gesture with her hand. "What about you?" She rested her elbow on the bar and her chin on her open palm as she looked at Mere.
"At the rate that people from home are showing up, I'm pretty sure that your Grace will show up eventually," Mere pointed out. It was legit only a matter of time, as most everyone had their significant other from home show up eventually. Almost like it was planned. Hmm. No matter. Mere just didn't have one from home that would show up, although at least there were plenty of interesting people here to keep her temporarily (or otherwise) distracted. "I'm doing pretty good. Loving the whole 'space' aspect. We basically had everything but aliens at home, so I'm getting a real kick out of meeting them here."
I hope so Penny thought about Grace arriving. They longer she stayed on Galador the more she doubted. Still. She'd try to live as much of a life as she could. Penny laughed at Mere's mention of aliens. She had a point. Back home that was the only thing they didn't have. "Have you met any interesting aliens?"
"Several, actually. I even met a talking Russian dog." Cosmo was amazing and Mere would hear no different. "I know I'm probably weird for liking it here so much, but I can't help but get giddy over all the different new people to meet and places to explore...OK, and the fact that they all seem to be gorgeous too doesn't hurt."
"No it doesn't," Penny agreed with a laugh. "Of all the people I've ever met I think that you're the person that would like it here the most." There was something about Mere. Nothing seemed to phase her.
Well, Mere had been through a lot in her short life, so everything just tended to roll off of her now. "It probably helps that I can make music anywhere, honestly," she admitted. Skylar, Chelle, and Ginny were all here, so music was easy for her to do. She was even working with Mouse these days. They just needed Chloe to show up and they'd really be set.
"You're also the one of the most talented people that I've ever met," Penny added with a brief nod of her head. She meant that artistically as well as sexually. They'd had a brief fling prior to Penny meeting Grace, after all. Perhaps in another universe they might have made something of it. Who could say? "Do you have any interest in taking part in Bale's," she didn't know what to call it other than: "Galador Idol?"
"Thanks," Mere said with a smile. Perhaps, in another universe, something had come of their hook ups. No way to really know, huh? "And I'm still trying to convince Ben to let me be a judge. He's scared Chelle and I together would utterly traumatize some poor contestant, though."
"You know, he's probably right about that," Penny teased. She'd only started to know Rachelle since their relocation to Galador, but she was quick to learn how unpredictable she was. Lord only knew how her wives put up with her. "I do envy you your musical ability. Maybe you could teach me something sometime?" She suggested. She needed more hobbies.
"I thought that maybe we'd be more like Simon and Paula, with me encouraging, but he SO does not believe it," Mere said with a snort. "And sure! I'd be happy to give you some lessons. Just let me know when you want to start."
"Oh, he knows what mischief you two will get up to." It was a riot to think about, though. "And I'm gonna get my store open here soon, but once it's started: I'm all yours. Hey. Even best buddy discounts."
"I'm still kind of hoping I can convince him before it starts up." Because it would be AMAZING and Ben knew it! "And we can even trade some lessons for toys if you want!" she joked. Mere didn't need to trade anything for lessons truthfully.
"Why, I do believe we have an accord," Penny teased. It felt nice to fall into new rhythm with old friends. It made this place feel a little less lonely - and Penny was all for that right now.
