Who: Cathy and Josh + Jory and Cory
What: First meetings and confessions.
Where: FT Park
When: June 16th I think
Warning: C for cute.
Cathy could not believe that she'd been talking to Josh for months without ever meeting him face to face. She's gotten used to the modern communication fast, it seemed, and had become like everyone else. It was kind of like having a penpal in a way but instead of waiting for mail to arrive or a phone call, she could talk to him instantly. When he volunteered to be a dad in Cory's life, she knew it was time to finally meet him. Giving her nanny a few hours off, Cathy packed up the boys' things and food for a picnic then she headed to the park, laying a blanket down in the shade near the playground. Ever the southern belle who hadn't quite adapted to modern styles just yet, she was wearing a midi skirt with a loose sitting tank top and flats on her feet. Her hair was in a ballerina bun, out of her way for her dance class later and because Jory was still in his hair pulling stage. 8 year old Cory ( who looked more like a 6 year old ) ran off to play while Cathy put the 9 month old down on the blanket with some toys to distract him so she could get the food out while she waited for Josh to show up.
===
Josh was still getting used to things on Galador. He wasn't from too far into the past, but being in space really amplified being out of touch. He'd been there a while, but he had been spending most of his time getting to know his teenage children from the future who had come back to be with him. It was different, but he loved it all the same. Now that he had acclimated to everything, he knew that it was time to start getting out, and all of the time he had spent talking to Cathy made him feel that all the more. After getting things finally set up, he got dressed and went to the park where he agreed to meet with Cathy and her boys looking as dorky as he possibly could, not that it was intentional. He wore a pair of khaki shorts and a polo shirt as he walked over to Cathy, whom he would never say so out loud, but looked much prettier in person. He stopped at the edge of the blanket and waved awkwardly with the most adorable grin. "Hi."
===
Cathy looked up when she heard a voice near by and she smiled when she saw it was Josh. Seeing him in person, she thought he was very handsome. It was a different handsome than Julian and Christopher, which was a bad thing at all. Different was very good in this case. "Josh! Hi! Come join us" She told him with a bright smile, patting the spot on the blanket beside her. The blanket was big enough to fit the two of them and the two children easily. "I hope you like peanut butter and jelly. It's all Cory will eat lately" She told him with a small laugh as she pointed to the container of premade sandwiches. There were other things for them to eat, of course, but PB&J was the star.
===
"Are you kidding?" Josh grinned as he sat next to Cathy. "I love peanut butter and jelly. It's one of the many things that make me sure that I am going to be like a big kid raising my children... or well... that I was with Aidan and Sally... I think," he sighed, shaking his head. "You know what I mean."
===
"I do" She replied with a laugh as she pulled out a sandwich and handed it to him. She would give Cory come time to play then call him over to eat. He'd just gotten out there and she didn't want to interrupt him. After years of being locked up in the attic, the boy was finally running and playing again and she wasn't going to get in the way of that just yet. "Maybe your wife will come here and you two will reconnect or you'll meet the someone you're crazy about and you'll get to raise child from the beginning" She offered up as she grabbed her own sandwich, taking a bite.
===
"Honestly... I'm starting to lean more toward the possibility that I go on waiting so long that I find a new love and once things are beyond serious and I'm totally over Nora, she'll finally show up," he chuckled with a shrug as he took the sandwich. "I actually things are already partially going into that direction, anyway," he looked up at Cathy briefly, trying to hide his slightly flushed cheeks.
===
"Wouldn't that be something? You would be in quite the pickle" She commented, waiting until she had swallowed her bite to speak. She had been raised a proper southern lady, she always used her manners. She could only imagine the position he would be in if that really were to happen. He would have to pick and that was a position no one should be in. "Oh? Who's the lucky lady?" She asked with interest, secretly hoping it was her as she took another bite of her sandwhich.
===
Josh chuckled, his cheeks turning bright red as he looked down, shaking his head. "It's not like I'd ever get so lucky anyway. I was only with Nora for a few years, but apparently, it kept working and she was way out of my league." He slowly looked up, taking a deep breath, "I don't talk to many people. Everyone always seems to intimidate me."
===
Him not answering her question didn't go unnoticed but she said nothing about it, instead eating her sandwhich as she listened to him. She made sure to keep an eye on her boys; Cory was playing in the sandbox near by and Jory was in front of them putting every thing he could into his mouth. Perhaps it was time to feed him. "You never know" She pointed out as she pulled out some fruit and put in in front of the baby so he could feed himself. "You're quite the catch" She told him with a smile as she grabbed a piece of banana and ate it. She looked thoughtful for a moment as she chewed it then she spoke again as she sat back. "I don't either. I spent years talking to only my siblings and kept to myself for a long time after that. Old habits are hard to break"
===
Josh nodded as he ate, "you're right. I have always been shy and timid. Not even..." He paused, taking a deep breath. "I should probably tell you something before we spend much more time together. I'm not sure if you've had this conversation with Sally yet, but you should still hear it from me."
===
"That's not a bad thing" She told him as she reached for a grape. She paused in her eating and looked at him with concern in her eyes. This didn't sound good. "I already know you're married and you have children ... what more is there that you have to tell me?" She wondered, putting her grape back down because her complete focus was on him now.
===
Josh laughed nervously, "this may be a little bigger than that. I'm a werewolf. Thus the reason why I had said that I can't hang out with you during the full moon." He looked down, frowning, "if you don't want to talk to me anymore..."
===
Well that was certainly not what she expected to hear. She look on her face was more shock than fear, only because she didn't know that werewolves were real. She was like that for a few moments then she reached out and took his hand, a soft look on her face. "I still want to talk to you, Josh" She told him, giving his hand a squeeze. "And I definitely want to see you often now that we've met face to face"
===
He let out a sigh of relief, "oh good. As you can see, the change hasn't done anything for my confidence. At least not much. I'm extremely dangerous when I turn, but I've been able to find all of the appropriate measures to assure everyone's safety during those nights."
===
She gave his hand an extra squeeze when he sighed that sign and laughed a little bit. "Confidence comes with time" She advised before nodding her head to what he said., not yet letting go of his hand "Good. That's good. Don't want anyone getting hurt" Or worse but she didn't say that because she didn't want to think about that at the moment.
===
He nodded, "my kids and I have been here for seven months and I've had a lot of time to myself. In saying that, I've felt a connection with you ever since we met and it's only grown since I sat down and started talking to you in person."
===
She smiled hearing that. "I feel the same way. I don't think I've ever felt a connection like this before. Not even with Jory's father" She looked down at her son for a moment, watching as he shoved fruit on his mouth with it all over his face. What she felt with Julian and what she felt now with Josh was definitely different. The two men were different too. Looking back up at Josh, she bit her lip a little bit, finding herself nervous. "So what do we do now?"
===
"Well..." he took a deep breath, laughing as he rubbed the spot on his finger that once held his wedding band. "I've barely worn it since I've been here and realized that she hadn't followed me. It gets in the way at work, anyway. So maybe... you and I can try going on an actual date? Or we can just continue the way that we've been going. Either way."
===
She had noticed that but hadn't said anything about it because it didn't seem right and it really wasn't her place. She nodded her head as he talked about not wearing it then she smiled brightly when he suggested they could go on a date. "I would love to go on a date with you. The sooner the better" And it was at that moment that Cory came over to them saying her was hungry. Letting go of Josh's hand, Cathy pulled out a sandwich and handed it to him as he sat down, "Cory, I want you to meet my very special friend. This is Josh. He's going to be spending a lot of time with us"
===
Josh smiled nervously, "hello Cory. Your sister has told me some things about you." He took another bite of his sandwich, glancing over to Jory before looking up at Cory to see how he'd react.
===
"She's my mama" Cory said sweetly, smiling over to his big sister who smiled back at him as she leaned over and kissed the top of his head. Taking a bite of his sandwhich, the boy seemed to study Josh for a moment before speaking again once he had finished chewing. "Do you like mice?"
===
"That's right," Josh playfully smacked his own forehead. "I forgot, she told me that," he nodded with a goofy grin. "I do," he nodded. "They're..." he blinked, stopping himself from what he was about to say, "very interesting creatures."
===
"Isn't he silly?" Cathy commented, laughing as she scooped Jory up into her lap and leaned over to wipe his face off. As she dog a bottle out of formula to give to him, Cory began telling Josh a little bit about his pet mouse Mickey. "He has a condominium for a cage because Cory insisted he had to have the best" She interjected after a while as she fed Jory his bottle.
===
Josh nodded, "well, of course. I mean, he is Mickey. He should get the absolute best of everything. Have you had any other pets, Cory?"
===
"Just Mickey" Cory replied as he went back to his sandwich. "We were never allowed to have them growing" Cathy explained, saying it as simply as she could. She didn't want to go into the reason why because it involved their mother and that woman was not someone she wanted to even think about at the moment. "What about you?"

"That still counts" Cathy told him with a smile, to which Cory nodded his head in agreement. There was a small silence after that between all of them but it wasn't awkward at all. In fact, it was rather nice and peaceful as they all enjoyed their food. "We'll have to do this more often" She spoke up after a while, looking over to Josh when she said it. Be it with or without their kids, she was really enjoying spending time with him.===
Josh nodded, "definitely. Maybe I can even eventually talk my kids into joining us. Well... Sally will be easy. Aidan tends to be a hard sell."
===
"I think your kids will probably have more of a hard time coming to terms with this" She gestured between them. "Than mine and Carrie will so good luck" She told him with a small laugh, deciding at that moment to lean over and kiss his cheek.
===
Josh laughed softly, blushing. "Well maybe I'll start with Erin. I know her best and maybe she can help me with the other two."
===
"That's a good idea. It might be easier with her" Cathy commented with a nod of her head. Looking away from him and down to Jory, she smiled when she saw that he'd fallen asleep when he was almost done with his bottle. "Sleep well" She put the bottle aside and snuggled him towards her as she turned to Cory. "Are you all finished?" She asked, frowning when he said he was even though he hadn't eaten as much as she wanted him to. He wasn't going to start growing again if he didn't eat more but she knew she couldn't force him. "Alright, you can go back and play if you want to"
===
"I hear kids can be like that, especially when there is a distraction nearby," he motioned toward the playground equipment that Cory had made his way back to. He knew that there was probably more to it, but that was more than likely a discussion for another time.
===
"It's goes a little bit deeper than that but I don't want to get into it" She told him, shaking her head as she grabbed a grape and put it in her mouth. "Right now I just want to enjoy some kid free time with you while we have it. It's rare" She told him with a small laugh.
===
Josh nodded, "it's alright. You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to. Just know that I am here for you." He reached over, touching her hand, "for anything."
===
"One day I'll tell you everything. Just not today" She told him with a soft smile, taking his hand on hers. Sliding over closer to him, she rested her head on his shoulder and watched as Cory played. There was silence between them once more but again, she didn't mind at all.
