"This can't really be happening, right?" Jodi Hanson turned to look at her wife, a wide-eyed fear on her face the other woman probably hadn't seen since Jodi was a teenager. The two women stood in the reception area of the Welcome Center, having just arrived. "Caiti... this is literally impossible, right? Look at this list!" She said, looking over at the other woman and holding the phone they were both given up to her. She'd pulled up the list of current 'refugees', which included names she recognized from comic books, TV shows, etc...
"Well, I don't know that people *can* share hallucinations," Caitlyn replied sensibly as she hooked an arm around Jodi's in an effort to comfort and ground her. She glanced at the list, eyebrows furrowing as she read it. She liked to think that they both had sensible heads on their shoulders, so... "I mean. I feel fine. You," she pinched Jodi's arm, "feel like you're here with me." You can't feel things in dreams, after all. "I'm cold, but otherwise... Fine. Lucid."
"I mean, this thing says Dany is here." Jodi pointed out, her index finger placed directly under where the girl's name was listed. "How could Dany be here already when we literally just saw her a few minutes before we got here?"
"What did the pamphlet say? Something about people being pulled from different times and places?" Jodi had more of a mind for the comic book stuff (even well into adulthood) to be fair. "Maybe she was plucked from a different timeline, or *universe* even?"
"Oh GOD..." Jodi blurted out, eyes going almost hilariously wide. "What if she's an evil version of Dany? Or... or... some crazy cyborg version bent on world domination? What would we even DO?" Think Jodi was having a minor meltdown, folks?
"I doubt that there's a world where our child will be anything other than the brilliant, thoughtful and kind young woman that we raised," Caitlyn said softly, brushing a hand over Jodi's hair. Caitlyn felt like Jodi was usually the more level-headed of the two of them, so when Caitlyn had to be the anchor for her -- things had to be bad.
"......waitaminute." Jodi whispered, reading the refugee listings a little more. Whatever she just saw mentally sobered her up damn quickly. "Caiti? Look at where it says Dany is living here. Dragonstone. In Westeros. You don't think...?"
Caitlyn felt the first twinges of a headache coming on. She blinked and pinched the bridge of her nose. She leaned closer as if to do a double-take, but it was more to hide her own discomfort. Her wife and child always came first. Always. "I think," she agreed. "We should find a way to get to her."
"Annnnnd we will." Jodi said, one eyebrow slowly rising. "As soon as you tell me what's going on." When it came to Caitlyn and her health, nothing tended to get by Jodi. Not a single little detail. "You feeling ok, baby?"
"Nothing I can't handle," Caitlyn replied with a reassuring smile. Today was not the day for her to mentally check out. She reached for Jodi's hand and held it. "They said something about trams, right?"
"Yeah..." Jodi said, the tone of her voice dubious. She knew her wife would never lie to her, especially about something as precarious as her mental health... but she still tended to overworry. "Just... promise me if things start feeling a little overwhelming, you'll tell me? So we can take a little health-break?"
Caitlyn nodded agreeably. "I promise." Just imagining Dany in this place without them for however long was enough to make her heart break, honestly. How long had she been there? Was she their Dany? Or another Jodi and Caitlyn's Dany? She gave Jodi's hand a squeeze. "We just need to find our baby."
"Agreed." Jodi nodded, squeezing Caitlyn's hand right back. "Let's go see what's waiting for us out there, hm?" She asked, taking a long look at the redhead. As it had seemingly always been... she felt that no matter what surprises or hardships were in store for them, as long as they had each other? God help anything that tried to stop them.
One could only speculate how they'd take to arriving on a planet in an alternate dimension if they weren't together. They probably wouldn't have taken it well. Caitlyn took a deep breath and nodded. Her own... discomfort and mental disorganization could wait until after they'd found their child, she decided. She set off at a walk beside her wife, occasionally glancing down at the map on her communicator to make sure they were heading into the right direction to the tram stop. "This place is... big."
"It's hard to believe this is even real..." Jodi replied in an awed whisper. "I mean... all these famous places we've seen in movies, books, comics... they're all real here."
Caitlyn couldn't help it but find it amusing that Jodi was the one questioning the nature of her reality. Her eyes widened comically. "If Hogwarts is here I just might cry."
"Holy crap... IT IS." Jodi laughed, pointing it out to Caitlyn on the map. "I am so taking you to see Hogwarts. The grin on your face is gonna be so epic..." She added with a happy little laugh, as (at least for now) excitement had pushed aside the fear and confusion.
Caitlyn nodded in agreement. "Is there anywhere that you'd like to go?" Hell, they could treat every day like a mini vacation if they wanted to. (Of course in the back of her brain she was worried about living and work arrangements, but she was always practical about things like that).
"....all of it?" Jodi answered honestly, that sheepish, adorable grin reminiscent of the kind she gave when they had met as teenagers. "Right now though... I'm thinking we need to be good moms and go find our kid."
"Right," Caitlyn agreed. She hooked an arm around Jodi's and cuddled her as they walked along. Her mind ran a mile a minute, overun with fear and panic. But she endured. She set one foot in front of the other. Once they got to the tram stop she turned to Jodi and said (trying not to laugh): "To Westeros."
