Does She Still "Have It"?
Who: Alex and Haruka, featuring Gwen

Alex Vause found herself in something of a funk. She'd been happy to help teach Mere Delany onboard Serenity, but more and more lately it felt like she was training a replacement rather than a co-worker. Mere cracked her up and was great company, but Alex had been thinking that maybe it was time to move on; much like Chase had before her. The trouble was... what did she move toward?

Not to mention the fact that while things with her girlfriend Gwen had been going well, she felt stagnant in their relationship. What did she do with these feelings? She did what any responsible adult would do. She found a bar and decided to drink until she didn't feel feelings anymore. Right at the moment, she was in the middle of a boilermaker. She dropped a shot of whiskey into a pint of beer, then guzzled as much as she could until she needed to take a breath. "That's the shit, right there."

While this was definitely a more... rowdy crowd than Haruka typically spent time in, finding out that Michiru was here, and had moved on without her, was devastating. She couldn't entirely blame the girl... she'd been here for quite a while now, and had no way of knowing if Haruka would EVER show up. But to know that her (now ex) girlfriend was SO in love with her current partner? That stung.

But Haruka Tenoh had never been one to dwell on emotions for long. Or to show them, for that matter. She was the tough, quiet, brooding one. Always had been. And without even Setsuna here to confide in, she looked for something, anything, to cling to. What she found was this very Earth-like sports bar, in the middle of an alien planet, that was showing racing at the moment. One thing Haruka always hung on to, even when in the depths of focusing on being a Sailor Senshi, was her love of racing. Of being in a car, making it go to speeds nobody else could... it was a rush unmatched. And while watching it was hardly the same, it was better than nothing.

Which brings us to this moment. The tall, lanky 19-year old sitting at the bar, nursing a beer that had been given to her by one of the waitresses, who knew who she was and admired her. She was dressed, as usual, in a more masculine fashion - dressy blue jeans, sneakers, and a beige suit jacket and tie over a white dress shirt.

Her attention was piqued by the loud brunette drinking a few feet away from her. While not typically into older women (if anything, Haruka liked girls a tiny bit younger than herself), she could barely take her eyes off of the classic, almost picturesque beauty of the woman.

"You know, you look far too classy to be pounding those down like that..."

"Well then clearly you don't know me," Alex replied in a snarky tone. She reeled herself in when she realized how young her new companion was. Was Haruka even legally allowed to be there? (Alex wasn't aware of the legal drinking age on Galador). A part of her hated that she thought that, but... at least she was responsible enough to think that? Maybe?

"Sorry. I'm not exactly the best company right now," she admitted. Alex couldn't help it but feel her old self coming back a little when she asked: "So what brings you here?" She looked at the TV. "Racing?"

"I suppose that's part of it." Haruka said with a slightly bitter snort. The tone of her voice, the way she carried herself... it made it apparent that despite her age, this was an old soul. This girl had seen some shit.

Oh, the smirk that crossed Haruka's lips there... this girl was full of self-confidence and was tough as hell, and it practically OOZED from her pores.

Alex had more of her drink. "Well, I'd say 'fight for her' but considering you're sitting here either that's not an option or you've already tried." She frowned. That was a down thought. "But hey, at least you met me. I'm pretty fucking amazing."

"Not sure that either answer is right, but... I'll say you're closer with option #1." The blonde said, shaking her head in disbelief. "They both seem happy. Michiru's been here for close to two years. I can't expect her to have put her entire life on hold.... no matter how much I thought we were meant to be."

"Well shit, dude. No wonder you're here." What a thoroughly depressing thing to hear. Alex finished her drink and turned to the bartender: "Something else. Anything else." She wasn't in the mood to slow down tonight. "What's your name, anyway?"

Haruka turned to Alex again, giving a lazy little smile as she rested her chin on her fist. "I'm Haruka. And what is your name, you beautiful thing?"

Oh, sure... she was hurting. Badly, to be honest. But like hell would she let anyone see it.

"Alex," the older woman replied with a lopsided smile. Maybe more than alcohol she needed to be social again. Her thoughts had been in a dark place for so long. "Gotta say, I'm loving that outfit."

The bartender took that second to set a margarita in front of Alex. She narrowed her eyes playfully. "Well, I did say 'anything'," she muttered. "Can I buy you a drink, Haruka?"

"For starters, yes." Haruka replied, fully intending on taking this flirtation as far it could go. She could tell me Alex's mannerisms that this wasn't a woman who was out searching for a soulmate... but one who could possibly be a very fun distraction.

"Jesus. How old do you think I am?" Alex asked, laughing. 40 was looking closer than 30 these days, but she still felt young at heart. As for drinking? Alex wasn't going to push. She wasn't necessarily going to slow down herself, though.

"Oh you have no idea," Alex lilted in reply. She was pleasantly surprised, though, since she didn't think that Haruka had it in her to be so forward. She rested her elbow on the table and her chin on her open palm as she gazed at her. "You're fun," she decided.

Alex moved her hand to the back of her head, still resting her elbow on the bar as she nibbled on her bottom lip. This conversation was veering in a direction that she wasn't prepared for. Still, it was nice to feel like herself again. "You know, I'm sure there are."

Haruka was never this.... bold. This seductive. Oh, she loved to flirt... even while with Michiru, she loved flirting, especially with Usagi and the other girls. But that was playful. Teasing. This was a girl who's heart was shattered, throwing herself out there, to see if she still "had it". To see if it was HER fault that Michiru moved on.

Add the fact that she was JUST tipsy enough to kick her inhibitions to the curb, and Haruka leaned in then, and pressed her lips to Alex's, curious as to the reaction it would get.

Alex had her own worries to deal with. Ever since the night of the failed hook up with Bea, her heart hadn't been in much of anything since. She knew that she loved Gwen and likely wouldn't let what was happening right now progress much further, but she felt so far apart from who she was, or at least who she'd once been, that this felt like a brief glimpse of what she'd been missing. It almost broke her. When did things become so serious? She placed a palm to Haruka's cheek, kissing her back slowly. It felt as if she was trying to get back that missing part of herself that she'd lost along the way. "You'll be okay," she murmured against her lips.

"Oh, I don't doubt that for a second," Alex replied, keeping her voice soft. This was a private moment between two consenting adults. No one else had to hear what they were saying. Back on her attempted night with Bea she couldn't bring herself to do it, despite having permission from Gwen. They'd discussed being 'open' and trying new things in their relationship and she eventually balked at the idea. She loved Gwen. At the time her body was for it, but her mind wasn't there yet.

Still. She'd be lying if she said that she wasn't tempted. This time her body and mind seemed to be in alignment. Maybe it was time to try again.

She brushed a hand over Haruka's hair and she leaned in for another kiss, putting more passion behind it this time, her fingers curling through Haruka's short blonde hair at the back of her head. "I'd need to ask for permission first," she decided to say. "We're trying to be more open... but I could never bring myself to do something that would hurt Gwen. As much as I want you," she leaned in for a much briefer, tender kiss, "I would never want to break her heart."

It was in that smile that Alex could see how truly brokenhearted Haruka was. She placed a palm to the younger woman's cheek, just taking a moment to gaze at her. This was someone who needed to feel like she was still capable of love, capable of being wanted. She could see that. Alex leaned in for another brief kiss before standing up with a slight wobble and finding a quiet corner so she could call Gwen. She could have taken the cowards way out and just voice called. Instead, she made it a video call. She wanted to look in Gwen's eyes when she asked. She straightened out her hair and clothes while she waited for the connection, although there was no hiding the fact that she was slightly tipsy and giddy.

Gwen, meanwhile, had been feeling much like Alex had. While content in their relationshit, life in general had become so stagnant, so routine... this was a girl who was used to being a superhero, yet she'd become almost a typical housewife-type. Hell, right now she was curled up on the sofa in her pajamas, reading a damn book. Giving a sly little grin when she saw Alex was calling, she picked up and winked at the camera.

"Hey there, party girl... three sheets to the wind yet?"

"Not quite," Alex replied, nibbling on her bottom lip as she brushed her dark hair back over her head. How did she phrase what she wanted to say? "So, you remember a while back you gave me permission to fuck Bea and I had a worse breakdown than Britney Spears shaving her goddamn head?" Okay, kind of going offtrack with that reference. "How would you feel if we tried that again?"

"Aye aye, capt'n," Alex replied with a cheeky little salute and a wink before signing off and slipping her communicator back into her pocket. She took a moment to take a breath, wanting to be absolutely sure that she was ready this time.

She waved to get Haruka's attention, then made her way back over to the younger woman. "All systems are go." She sipped some more of her margarita and asked with a quirk of an eyebrow: "Assuming you'd still want to." The few minutes apart might have been enough to change Haruka's mind, and she certainly wouldn't hold it against her if she had.
